Learning Environment Change Window
Parents and guardians who want to change their child’s learning environment can update their selection November 9-13. Families will continue to have two choices for learning in Frisco ISD: on-campus or virtual instruction. No action is required by parents who wish to maintain the same learning environment.
New selections will go into effect for the third nine weeks of school, which begins January 5. Although the change window may seem early, two extended school breaks fall between the change window and the start of the second semester. The selected time frame will provide staff with sufficient work days to make the necessary changes to student and teacher schedules. Please keep in mind, the instructional environment change period may potentially impact your child whether or not you request a change.
Changes will be accepted via the Student Portal through 11:59 p.m. on Friday, November 13. Click here for more information, including instructions for how to request a change.
Message from PTA: Holiday Donations
Let’s show our teachers and staff how much we appreciate them! In lieu of teacher gifts, parents and students are encouraged to donate gift cards in $5 to $20 denominations that will be distributed to the entire staff. Donations can be dropped off at the front office. We ask that all donations are submitted by Wednesday, December 16th. Please write the $ amount and the name of the family who donated in a permanent marker on each gift card/sleeve so the teacher/staff member can extend their appreciation once they receive it. We truly appreciate the support of our community! Happy Holidays!

Pentathlon is open to 7th and 8th grade students, and our topic this year is The Cold War. You will attend weekly virtual meetings and compete against other are schools in April. An interest form link is included in this week’s Viking View. If you are interested, please sing up on the form or see Mrs. Roberts in B105 or Ms. Buzan in B104 if you have any questions.
Thank you,

Career & Technical Education (CTE) Programs & Dual Credit Information Nights
Career and Technical Education (CTE) will host three webinars that will give an overview of Frisco ISD CTE programs, new Health Science dual credit courses, and Collin Technical Campus dual credit opportunities. Please register for the webinar and see our FISD CTE website for additional information.

Free Meals
Frisco ISD will provide school meals at no-cost now through December 18th, thanks to a waiver and reimbursement from the federal government. The District has been approved to offer breakfast and lunch at no cost to all students, both on-campus and virtual learners, as well as to children age 18 and younger who are not enrolled in FISD. To receive a free meal, on-campus students must select a complete meal with a fruit or vegetable. No sign up is required.
Parents of virtual learners, as well as non-FISD students, who are interested in picking up free to-go meals should complete the sign-up form for the remainder of the first nine weeks. There will be a separate, additional sign-up form for the second nine weeks (Oct. 19 - Dec. 18) because of the opportunity for students to switch instructional environments. In order for the District to qualify to provide free meals, Frisco ISD had to modify the pick-up locations for families participating in virtual instruction.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme Admissions
The admissions form link for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at Frisco HS is now available on the FISD IB school of choice website:
Any interested 8th grader needs to submit an interest form before the November 18th deadline to be included in the admissions process for the IB Class of 2025 cohort. Please email any questions to Jenna Gates, IB Coordinator at FHS, at GatesJ@friscoisd.org.
Library to Go
FISD librarians believe that reading is the foundation for all learning and contributes greatly to student success in school. Recent research suggests that print remains the preferred medium for reading. As such, we believe that getting books into the hands of FISD students is critical to increase opportunities for independent reading and academic success.
In order to support literacy development, Frisco ISD has created opportunities for students enrolled in the Virtual Academy to checkout print books from their home campus library and pick them up on designated days and times.
Please review this presentation for specific guidelines for Vandeventer Middle School. Reach out to Mrs. Hon for questions at hona@friscoisd.org.
Lunch Visitation
Please use this link to schedule your lunch visitation. Due to social distancing guidelines, there is a two family minimum for each lunch time.
- Parents will be allowed to eat lunch with their student(s) during the fall semester; however, we are asking parents to notify the administration as least 24 hours in advance.
- Parents/guardians are NOT allowed to bring food and/or eat lunch with students other than their own.
- Social-distancing guidelines will be strictly enforced in the cafeteria.
- There will be tables designated for parents eating lunch with their students(s).
- Parents/guardians MUST check-in at the front office to receive a visitor badge.
- Parents/guardians must comply with campus expectations regarding face coverings and social-distancing.
- Students may still receive lunch drop-offs via the grade level coolers/buckets placed outdoors in front of the cafeteria entrance.
Notes from the Nurse
What is diabetes?
Diabetes is an epidemic in the United States. According to the CDC, over 34 million Americans have diabetes and face it's devastating consequences. What's true nationwide is also true in Texas.
- 2,333,000 people in Texas, or 11.2 % of the adult population have diagnosed diabetes.
- An additional 621,000 people in the Texas have diabetes, but don't know it, increasing their health risk.
- There are 7,142,000 people in Texas, 34% of the adult population have prediabetes with blood glucose levels that are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes.
Diabetes is EXPENSIVE!
- People with diabetes have medical expenses 2.3 times higher than those who do not have diabetes
- Total direct medical expenses for diagnosed diabetes in Texas were estimated at $18.9 billion in 2017.
- In addition, another $6.7 billion was spend on indirect costs from lost productivity due to diabetes
- Insulin, is a medication that is critical to the health and well-being of those with Type 1 diabetes and for some individuals with Type 2 diabetes where necessary.
- One vial of Humalog, a rapid acting insulin also known as Lispro, used to cost $21 in 1999, was at a cost of $332 in 2019, reflecting a price increase of more than 1000%! The first vial of insulin was patented in 1923 and sold for $3 at that time!!!
What can we do to help?
- As a society, we need to collectively ADVOCATE for lower prescription insulin prices and policies that can achieve that goal with state and federal lawmakers, similar to the effort by oncologists to highlight the problem of high cancer drug prices.
We are beginning to see an increase in the amount of close contact and illness here on campus. Please continue to be vigilant with regards to hand hygiene, mask wearing, and social distancing, as well as monitoring your student BEFORE they come to school each day. Pandemic fatigue has set in, but we must stay the course to stay together!!!
Virtual Service Hours
The Academic Partnership and Community Partnership teams are working on gathering information about virtual service opportunities for students. Click here to view a list of cooperating agencies willing to provide virtual service opportunities.

Students, remember to wash your hands often throughout the day. For example, wash your hands before and after you eat, after using the restroom, and after school. Keeping our hands clean is one of the most important steps to take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. It's best to wash hands with soap and clean running water for 20 seconds.
