Black History Month
Black History Month. Every February, the U.S. honors the contributions and sacrifices of African Americans who have helped shape the nation. Black History Month celebrates the rich cultural heritage, triumphs and adversities that are an indelible part of our country's history. Each day, we will introduce you to one of America's pioneering black figures from history.
Annie Lee Cooper (1910-2010)
The Selma, Alabama, native played a crucial part in the 1965 Selma Voting Rights Movement. But it wasn't until Oprah played her in the 2014 Oscar-nominated film Selma that people really took notice of Cooper's activism. She is lauded for punching Alabama Sheriff Jim Clark in the face, but she really deserves to be celebrated for fighting to restore and protect voting rights.

FUN FACT I BET YOU DIDN'T KNOW!
Why Only 28 Days?
Before the final calendar, the length of February kept changing and even had 23 days at some point. This is because of the irregular rotation of the earth that made some years longer than others.
