FROM NURSE JEN
Greetings from the school clinic and Happy New Year to each of you!
I want to let our families know that if you should ever have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to drop by the clinic or call 469-752-3009. You can also email me at jennifer.boleman@pisd.edu. I’m here to help!
I thank you for entrusting your child’s school health to me. It truly is a privilege and an honor to work with the children and families here at Saigling Elementary School.
Below are just a few reminders for the school year. They are as follows:
-Medication: Medications at school must always be brought in by an adult, never in a child’s backpack. This includes cough drops as well. Each medication must have a pink medication request form completed, prior to the administration at school. Medications must be in the original, labeled container (no pills in Ziploc bags please). This applies to prescription and non-prescription medication.
Please make sure and check the expiration dates on each medication, as we cannot administer expired meds in the clinic.
-Illness: Children with temperatures of 100F or more MUST be kept at home until fever-free for a minimum of 24 hours, without the help of Motrin or Tylenol.
Please make sure your phone number, email, and emergency contacts are current, so the school can always contact you in case of illness or injury.
Practicing good handwashing at home is a great way to prevent the spread of germs! Please encourage this, as much as possible, at home.
Finally, another excellent way to cut down on the spread of germs is to practice with your child, how to cough into their elbow, instead of their hand. We practice this in school and hope they practice this at home and in the community as well.
Birthday treats are welcome in most classrooms. Please keep in mind that Peanut/Nut-free treats are best. Contact your child’s homeroom teacher to arrange a date to bring in a celebratory treat.
It is at this time when the teacher can alert you to any allergies in the classroom.
Please drop off all birthday treats at the front desk. Include your child’s name and teacher on the treat as well. We prefer all treats to be store bought and contain a label with the ingredients listed on the package. I will check each birthday treat, against any allergies that may be in the class. This is for the safety of all of our students.
Thank you so much for the support each family provides at home. Working together, we can provide the healthiest school environment as possible.
JOIN THE SAIGLING WATCHDOGS!
WatchDOGS is a one-of-a-kind, school-based father involvement program that works to support education and safety.
As a program of the National Center for Fathering, we have more than 5,348 registered schools in 47 states that participate in the WatchDOGS program, in addition to participation in China, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Barbados.
Who are WatchDOGS? Fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer to serve at least one day a year in a variety of school activities as assigned by the school principal or other administrator.
