Mr. Randel Offering Encouraging Words to the Student Body to Start the Semester
2024 Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Mrs. Kilee Randel for being selected as the 2024 Akron Outstanding Teacher! Mrs. Randel is in her 17th year of teaching English and 8th year in the Akron School District. In addition to teaching English, Mrs. Randel has started or led several programs in our school district. She started the Big Buddy Program that connects all grade levels throughout our school, guides Middle School Student Council, High School Wellness Team, serves on the Akron Staff Wellness Team, advocates for student participation in the Elks Writing Contest, led a What’s So Cool About Manufacturing Program that explored businesses around Akron, led and helped organize an anniversary celebration of the 1960 State Basketball Team, and has coached every sport offered in our middle school girls program (volleyball, basketball, and track), and two years as the Head Girls Basketball Coach.
Each year a donation is given from an anonymous donor to recognize an outstanding teacher in the Akron School. The hope is to recognize the great work of teachers and the impact they make in students’ lives daily. The Akron School District is blessed to have a wonderful team of teachers and staff members who are deserving of recognition.
Congratulations Mrs. Randel! We are proud of you and this honor is well-deserved!
New Welcome to Akron Signs
It was a great day watching our Building Trades class unveil the Welcome to Akron sign. This sign is located on the east end of town on Highway 34. The sign on the west side of town is also completed. There will be two more signs constructed on the north and south side of town located on Highway 63. A huge thank you to Building Trades teacher Larry Johnson, Akron HS Building Trades class, Akron LIONS Club, Glosson Construction, and the Town of Akron for their efforts in this project.
Great Day to be a RAM!
FBLA Completes Food Drive
Wednesday our FBLA wrapped up the Canned Food Drive! It was definitely one to remember. FBLA is very thankful for everyone who donated food items and participated in the drive. On Tuesday, the students loaded up over 2,000 pounds of food on the bus and early Wednesday morning they traveled to Denver to donate it at the Food Bank of the Rockies. After unloading, the students and Mrs. Houston volunteered for Project Repack at the warehouse. It was an unforgettable experience and one the club would encourage everyone to go do! At the end of the shift they learned that during their volunteer time they packed 672 boxes, 14,650 pounds of food, which will provide 12,208 meals!
We are proud of these FBLA members and their dedication to their community.
