The Results of the Student Vote Are In!

297 Sexsmith Secondary School students cast their ballots in the Student Vote on Monday. There was an overwhelming win for candidate Chris Warkentin with 58.59% of the vote within our school. For the Canada-wide Student Vote, see the results here.

Wear your orange shirt to school on Wednesday, September 29th! The class with the highest percentage of students in orange shirts will win a class prize!

September 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day intended to educate and remind Canadians about the history of residential schools, honour the victims and celebrate the survivors.

SSS Cell Phone Policy

A reminder for returning students, and notice for our new students:


  • SSS is a cell phone/personal electronic device free classroom school!
  • you are welcome to have your cell phones at school to use before school, during lunch break, and after school. They are to be stored in lockers during classes and not to be used during instructional time

No Cell Phones during Class Time

  • all cell phones being used during instructional time will be confiscated and turned into the office where a parent or guardian will be notified to come and pick them up

COVID-19 Information & Protocols

Masks

All students and staff at SSS are required by the Alberta Government to wear non-medical face masks while in shared areas of the school outside of the classroom where physical distancing may not be possible, and on all PWPSD school buses. Staff and students do not have to wear masks while seated in the classroom during instruction where there is appropriate distance between the staff and students, and maximum possible distance between students’ desks (as a principle, two metres should be maintained wherever possible). Students will also be able to remove their masks when they are outside or engaged in physical exercise but will be reminded to properly socially distance themselves from others.

Hand Washing & Sanitizing

Handwashing is not mandatory as per the Government of Alberta at this time but good hand hygiene is highly reccommended and encouraged.

Vaccinations

An important step we can take to ensure the health and safety of our community is to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Children aged 12 and up are eligible to receive a first and second dose of an approved vaccine in Alberta. Peace Wapiti Public School Division will support Alberta Health Services as it runs temporary vaccination clinics in schools.


Immunization is voluntary and will be available in September and October for eligible students in Grades 7-12 and staff. More information will be provided to parents and guardians, parental consent will be required for in-school immunizations.


**Due to privacy laws, we cannot ask or disclose if students and staff are vaccinated.**
