SD161 Summer Academy 2022

The District 161 Summer Academy program is a great opportunity to learn and have fun all summer long! We are excited to extend fun and engaging experiences to all SD161 students. Summer Academy is free for all SD161 students. Registration links in (English) and (Spanish).

Full-day and half-day options!

Monday-Thursday [No classes on Fridays]

AM Session [8:15-11:15 a.m.]

and/or

PM Session [12:15-3:15 p.m.]

Students will participate in the following classes/activities:

• ELA/reading
• Math
• Enrichment class [P.E., art, music, STEAM, book club]

Summer Academy Important Dates:

• Tuesday, March 15, 2022 - Summer Academy Registration Opens
• Thursday, June 2, 2022 - Parent Information Night at Parker Junior High School
• Monday, June 6, 2022 - Tuesday, July 19, 2022 - Summer Academy
• Monday, June 20, 2022 - No Summer Academy
• Tuesday, June 28, 2022 - No Summer Academy
• Monday, July 4, 2022 - No Summer Academy

Parents can register for a half-day or a full day of Summer Academy.

Transportation Schedule:

• AM Session [8:15-11:15 a.m] bus service available to school and return home.
• PM Session [12:15-3:15 p.m.] (no bus service available to school) bus service available to return home only.

All Summer Academy classes will be held at Parker Junior High School, located at 2810 School Street, Flossmoor, IL, 60422.

Children who are District 161 residents and who have completed grades kindergarten through 7th grade may attend the summer program.

Children do not need to attend District 161 schools to register, but all children who are enrolled must be residents. Students not currently attending Flossmoor School District 161 will be required to present a current physical with up-to-date immunizations and proof of residency at the time of registration. District 161 summer programs are free for all District 161 students. All classes are taught by certified teachers. Parents need to complete the online registration form when it opens on March 15, 2022.

KinderPrep is a research-based program created by the University of Chicago. The program focuses on both academic and social skills. A morning and afternoon session will be available. The program will be at Parker Junior High School, and the hours align with the Summer Academy hours. You must complete kindergarten registration for the Fall 2022 school year to enroll in KinderPrep. Kindergarten Registration for KinderPrep students is on March 23, 2022, at each elementary school. If you have any questions, please contact Susie Fox at 708-647-7026 or sfox@sd161.org.

District 161 will provide an optional bus service for Summer Academy. You must sign up for transportation no later than May 10. Bus transportation will not be available for students who register after May 10th until after the first week of Summer Academy. Breakfast and lunch will available for all students attending Summer Academy.

Breakfast: Breakfast will be available for students who attend the AM session.

Lunch: Students who attend both the AM and PM sessions will eat lunch at the school.

Please plan to attend the Parent Orientation on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will take place in person at Parker Junior High School, 2810 School Street, Flossmoor, IL 60422.

Looking to add summer camp to your child’s day? The Homewood-Flossmoor Park District has add-on options. Contact Emanuel Esparza at eesparza@hfparks.com to arrange a schedule for your child. There are fees associated with participation in park district summer camp activities are the fees are determined by the park district. Bus service will also be provided after the PM Summer Academy session only to the Homewood Flossmoor Park District program.

If your child has a serious health condition or will need emergency medication during summer academy please contact the nurse at summer academy.

If your child is not currently enrolled in a D161 school, you will need to present a current school physical with up-to-date immunization records prior to the first day of Summer Academy.
