This year is FLYING by! This first quarter is now over and we are fast approaching 2022. We have been busier than ever--and loving it! We also have been (im)patiently waiting for new books to arrive--they have been hampered by supply chain issues and we FINALLY got some orders in and it was exciting to see all the new books in the hands of students. We have seen a high number of collaborations with our staff and in the spirit of giving thanks we are thankful that we work with staff that is so gracious and creative and that we are lucky enough to work with some of the best students here at GHS.

Classes in the library Oct/Nov: 100 (Book talk for AP Gov, Checkout, Research French I, Project development with Advanced Interior Design,Genre Book talks with sophomore and junior ELA classes, freshman academy book talk, genre and symbolism presentation with Mr. Zink’s Art Foundation and Sculpture classes)

We are finishing up book talks with Mrs. Franklin's AP Government, Criminal Justice I and Criminal Justice II classes. Students picked their own book over a topic that they are interested in, or want to learn more about and then every two weeks meet in small groups with Mrs. Franklin, Mrs. Donnalley, and Ms. Bueno. Each time we meet we discuss what they read and how it connects to what they are learning in class. We weren't quite sure if having every student read a different book would work, but the kids have been wonderful and very insightful and the whole experience has been fabulous. We can't wait to have them back with us next semester!

The Glendale Service Society is collecting donations to benefit Crosslines. They have set up a giving tree in the library where you can pick and ornament and bring it back with the donation listed on the ornament (full list of wants and needs listed above in the flyer). Any and all donations would be very much appreciated in this season of giving.

The library book talk group has been invited to compete in the Springfield Public School's high school Battle of the Books. Glendale has four teams made up of six students each. Each group divides out the 15 Gateway Award Nominees between them and reads their chosen books. Glendale's teams are competing with teams from the other high schools as well as against the other teams from their own school to take home the title of SPS Battle of the Books Champion. The battle is set to take place in April of 2022. We have been enjoying the spirit of competition, reading, and bonding with teammates.

A fun project we collaborated with Mr. Zink's art class to create genre symbols. The art class came down and explored the MANY different genres in our library and which ones they connect with personally. After the genre discussion and exploration students presented ideas for different symbols that could represent the each of the literary categories. Students went back to the art room to create their ideas from clay and paint them--as you can see we have some great artists. We always enjoy working with Mr. Zink and his students.
