MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Happy April SIS families!

Thank you so much for your help and support with ISASP testing this week! We greatly appreciate your willingness to ensure your child was well rested before each test, and on time each day. We are always so proud of the dedication and hardwork Solon students put into everything they do! Way to Make IT Happen SIS!

If your child(ren) missed any of the ISASP testing sections, they will be given time next week to complete them. Let the classroom teacher or myself know if you have any questions or concerns.

5TH GRADE TRANSITION TO MIDDLE SCHOOL!

We are excited to begin talking to your 5th grader about transitioning next year to middle school. Mrs. Pentico has been meeting with 5th-grade classes during guidance and doing a brief introduction to the middle school and answering student questions. Mrs. Pentico will have a special guest during her guidance time in April. Mr. Herdliska, the middle school principal, will be joining her and introducing himself, the middle school, and getting to know your students. We are busy planning parent meetings, student preparation, and step-up day events. More information will be coming from Mrs. Pentico and Mr. Herdliska regarding the specifics. Until then, please feel free to reach out to Mr. Herdliska, mherdliska@solon.k12.ia.us, or Mrs. Pentico, hpentico@solon.k12.ia.us with any questions regarding middle school transition.

Mr. Herdliska is so excited to welcome your students to the middle school, and Mrs. Pentico is so happy to travel to the middle school with them.

SPARTAN DASH IS COMING!

SPARTAN DASH ENTRY FORM

BIG GROVE SUPPORTS LV/SIS PTO & SPARTAN DASH!

Join us at Big Grove after running Spartan Dash on April 24 from 12 -3pm! Dine in, Carry out or Curbside pick up. Your meal/drinks/merchandise will help raise money for the Lakeview/SIS PTO to put funds back into our classrooms .

FRIENDLY OFFICE REMINDERS

Here are a few friendly reminders from the office staff. Please let the front office know if you have any questions.

Please keep sending water bottles to school with your student(s). Due to COVID, water fountains are still shut off in the building. However, the water filling stations are still operational.

Communication regarding absences and tardies should be sent to both the classroom teacher and Mrs. Arwine (school secretary).

Please remind your child to check the lost and found for any of their items they may have misplaced.

RECESS

Please help remind your child(ren) to bring their jacket, hat, and gloves to school on the days where the weather is a bit colder. This month in Iowa is notorious for going back and forth between warm and colder weather. Please be sure to label all cold weather items with your child's name. This will ensure that their items will get back to them if they happen to forget or misplace them in the building or on the playground.

We also recommend students pack an extra mask in their bag as some students have needed a mask change after playing outside at recess.

CONTINUED MITIGATION

Thank you for your continued support as we approach warmer weather, the end stretch of the school year, and slight mitigation shifts. We have lifted restrictions around student library access and shared use of classroom materials. We will continue to follow health guidelines and assess current mitigation strategies as needed.

At this time, masks are still expected in the building when social distancing is not possible. Classrooms will continue to provide frequent mask breaks, as well as take advantage of the nicer weather with outdoor class time.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or your child's classroom teacher with any questions or concerns.

PERSONAL PHONES & OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES

Please help remind your child(ren) that all personal phones and electronic devices should be turned off and stored in their backpack during school hours. Students should let their teacher or the office know if they need to use the phone to contact a parent. Text messages and phone calls should not happen on personal devices, other than during an emergency.
