March Newsletter 2022
Principal's Message
We have had a wonderful month of February and I know we are all looking forward to some warmer temperatures!
February came with some great fun and learning! Our first grade classes learned about President's and President's Day and even had a visit from Abraham Lincoln and George Washington! 2nd and 5th graders had fun snowshoeing in Pahaska. Unfortunately, mother nature was not kind to use with temperatures, 3rd and 4th grade got to enjoy a movie and pizza!
It is officially 3rd Trimester! Students and teachers are working extremely hard to prepare for the last few months of school. I cannot express how important it is for your students to be at school. Thank you to all of you who continue to support us in the importance of school and attendance.
Our 4th graders will be taking part of the NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) on March 2nd. I am confident our students will do their best and represent our school and Wyoming schools very well!
Thank you to all the parents and students who participated in Parent Teacher Conferences! We had a great turnout! It is amazing to see so many parents dedicated to their child's education. Consistent communication between parents and teachers is crucial.
SPRING BREAK
Spring Break is this month! I am hopeful that you will have some time off to spend with your loved ones. Spring Break is March 21st-March 25th.
One of my favorite February activities was watching students collaborate together in not only their classrooms, building popsicle bridges, but also in PE. Students learned all about the olympics and different winter olympic activities. I learned a LOT about curling! If you haven't asked your child about this, please do!
I have also enjoyed "Popsicle with the Principal". Students in 4th grade have the option to "buy" a coupon to get ice cream with the principal. HOW FUN! (Just the thought that a student wants to spend time with me?! Put ice cream with anything, right? ;) )
The last thing I will add is the amount of smiles, laughing and KINDNESS I saw in the month of February. National Kindness Day was on February 17th. Students have been working on filling out kindness blocks on a poster for Mrs. Simmons. This is more than just a poster, students are trying very hard and going out of their way to do kind things. I witnessed an older student stop in the hall and help a younger student zip their coat and then told them, "have a great day dude!". Kindness speaks volumes! Thank you to the teachers, staff, and PARENTS for instilling kindness into your children.
- If you can be anything, be kind. -
-Mrs. Allison Lewis

Arrival and Dismissal
Morning Procedures: Arriving Early
Students need to be outside or at breakfast in the morning.
Breakfast starts at 7:45am
Time before school is used by teachers to plan and prepare lessons and materials. Because teachers are unavailable to supervise them, we cannot allow students to be in the hallways before 8:10am, unless you have arranged tutoring.
Instructional Bell- 8:10am
If you arrive after the bell you will be marked tardy.
Tardy: The elementary schools of Park 6 take attendance twice daily. Attendance is taken first thing in the morning and afternoon. In the morning , students who are late but arrive before 8:30 are counted tardy. If they arrive after 8:30, they would be considered absent for the morning. In the afternoon, students absent longer than 20 minutes after 11:30 will be considered absent for the afternoon.
Note: Habitual tardiness is dealt with at the building level. Five (5) tardies to school equal one unexcused absence.
Dismissal Bell-3:15pm
Please call the office before 2:30pm if you have a change in after school plans. This helps with getting notes to the children in a timely manner. If we don't hear from you, we will assume to continue on with regular after school plans.
Contact Information
If you are moving/transferring please give as much notice of permanent withdrawal as possible. Check out should be before or after school. Library books will need to be returned, and your records will be sent to the new school.
After School Programs
We have quite a few academic support activities (tutoring or extended day) going on. Also, we have several more programs that are in development and will be launching soon. Keep an eye on the FB page! Our teachers are excited seeing new faces and sharing their passions with our kiddos!

Title 1 Tidbits
Title 1 has been busy! We have new materials for the students to use to help them with their learning. Our multi-sensory tables just came in for students to work at.
The middle of the year testing is completed and the scores are looking great! At the beginning of the year, 68% of our K-3 students scored at or above proficient on the Acadience assessment. On the midyear assessment 88% of our K-3 students score at or above proficient. I am excited to see it go even higher in the spring.
Our second Title 1 night is coming up on March 10th. This will be a virtual math event. Title 1 students and some extra students will be invited to participate in this fun math night. It will all be done from the comfort of your own home. Students will receive a packet with all the materials they need to participate. I hope everyone has a great time with this math night.
The targeted Title 1 program is new to our school this year, but we are already working to expand this program. We are applying for the school wide Title 1 program. This will give all students in our school access to services, materials and events. We are excited to bring extra support to all our students at all levels of learning.
Counselors Corner
This February, I have continued to meet with students individually, in small groups, and in large classroom settings. If any parents would like to refer their child for individual counseling, or if you would like to refer your child to a social skills, anxiety, anger, or other group, please contact me at through the front office, or at kambriesimmons@park6.org.

Here is a free upcoming parent course on reading: https://www.thereadingleague.org/parent-courses/
DMTI Information Parent Zoom
The DMT zoom meetings are a great way to gain insight into how teachers are teaching math through conceptual practice.
From a parent perspective: "The DMT people show me how my kids are learning math. I wasn't taught the way they explain things, but what they say is very logical and makes sense. It helps me know how to talk to my girls about math and think through challenging math."
From a teacher perspective: You know those moments when you are teaching along on a math lesson and a student asks a question or makes a mistake and you remember something that you learned at DMT, but you can't put your finger on exactly what to say? I call it a What Would Teacher Keith Do moment. The DMT zoom meetings are a quick way to refresh what we've learned. I have enjoyed making dinner and following along with the quick meetings.
