Understanding Grades in Geometry

It is important to me that Infinite Campus communicates whether or not your student's current grades would result in passing the semester.

Therefore, if your student has two or more IEs in their "I can" statements, their grade will be overridden to an F. This does not mean they do not have the chance opportunity to still pass this semester.

However, it does mean for the learning targets on which they are earning an IE, they will need to:

1. Finish any missing homework for that learning target.

2. Make corrections with me on their summative that included that learning target.

3. Retake that learning target.

In Infinite Campus for Geometry, you should be able to see a chart that lists the grades for each of our learning targets.

I have crossed out the learning targets we do not cover this semester.

I have also highlighted the categories for our learning targets. These are not "I can ..." statements, but an average of the learning targets that fit into those particular categories. For example, example. Congruence, Similarity and Proofs includes all the learning targets that start with a "1".

I am including examples because I want to be sure my explanations are clear. These examples are not reflective of any particular student, but merely made up grades for the sake of these examples.

In the first example, the student does not have any IEs in any learning target. This student is currently passing the class.

In the second example, the student has only one IE and is still passing the course.

In the third example, the student has two IEs. Two or more IE's results in the student's grade being overridden to an F until they follow and complete the retake procedure [please reference the top of this newsletter].

Again, this does not mean the student no longer has the opportunity to pass. They do, but it means they have knowledge and understanding to improve upon first.
