April 8, 2022
Hello HMS Families,
In addition to checking your child's grades, please continue to check in with them and encourage them to report behaviors that threaten the safety of our community and school. Recently, we've seen an increase in student interest in gangs. Heritage Middle School wants to continue to be a safe space for everyone. Thank you to those parents who call and share information with us. Please continue to do so. Let's continue to work together to keep our community and school safe.

8TH GRADE PARENTS
A Parent's Guide to Snapchat
We know parents and caregivers can have many questions and concerns about how their child is using social platforms. We believe parents should have the tools to empower themselves and their teen when it comes to using Snapchat. That’s why we’ve created a Parent’s Guide to Snapchat for parents of Snapchatters so they can learn what our app is all about and encourage their kids to use it safely.
The guide includes helpful resources for a parent or caregiver including…
- How to navigate the app: Learn the Snapchat fundamentals like Snap Map, Chat, the Camera, Stories, and Discover!
- Managing privacy: Get to know our privacy principles and how we make privacy a top priority.
- Wellbeing tools: We worked with leading organizations to provide resources and support to help Snapchatters in need, as part of our commitment to the safety and wellbeing of our community.
- Conversation starters for parents: Parents can get ideas about how to communicate with their teen about using Snapchat—including how to get involved and recognizing concerns.
Parents can also find a glossary of Snapchat terms, as well as common FAQs based on questions asked by our very own community!
To help create this guide, we worked with organizations like Crisis Text Line and MindUP program of The Goldie Hawn Foundation
Because this guide was created and designed solely by Snap, we can and will add new features and update the guide as our app evolves! You can check the last page of the guide to see if you’re looking at the latest version, and we will do our best to share the guide as it’s updated.
