John Champe Knightly News
Edition 6, November 15-26
Welcome to November and second quarter!
Please read on for updates that take us through Thanksgiving break!
Admin Corner
As we move into our winter sports season, please remember that masks or face coverings are required for anybody on any LCPS campus at all times. Proper wearing includes covering the mouth and nose. Thank you for your cooperation!
Credit Recovery
Please check in with your student if you received notification of a credit recovery plan in place. Let's work together to complete first quarter tasks so focus can be on current learning!
Safety Reminder
Students are still crossing Northstar at the Sacred Mountain intersection. As a reminder, there is no crosswalk at that intersection. Several students have been hit by vehicles while attempting to cross there. It is not safe to cross at the Sacred Mountain/Northstar intersection. Students and families are strongly encouraged to cross at the Conejo traffic signal. It is the only safe passage across Northstar.
You're Invited!
CHARGE up and Connect
Check pantries and closets!
As we enter the holiday season, JCHS is running a couple of collection drives for our community. First up is DECA's food drive leading up to Thanksgiving. Please round up canned and boxed food items and send them in between now and November 16.
Next, take a look through your closets for any gently used winter wear such as coats, gloves, hats and scarves for CAMPUS's winter drive for the American Red Cross November 30-December 15.
Thank you for your charitable love for others in our area at these times!
Have you gotten connected with a club you're enjoying? Great! Keep attending and participating! If you haven't yet or find that you have more time and service to give, check out the ICC website for other organizations that might interest you. Remember, you can also accrue service hours as part of the Knights Give Back service program. Check out your graduating class' Schoology course for volunteer opportunities.
Athletics
So many ways to get out and support our student athletes! Check out the JCHS athletics website for the full schedule of winter sports.
College and Career Center
Our next college visit is ODU November 18. Please remember that students should sign up to to attend via Naviance. See Mrs. King (karen.king@lcps.org) with any questions.
Senior Capstone
Seniors learned about our inaugural Capstone year in advisory this past Friday. Interested students should begin considering ways they may want to connect with the community. Applications are due November 29.
On Tuesday, November 16, we will host an info session at 6pm in the media center for interested students and their guardian(s) as well as community members that are curious how they might engage.
Parents, if your place of work is in our community and could take on students interested in learning more about your sector, please begin conversations with the appropriate parties. The expectation will be that students will make connections with places of work, but we'd love to start building a directory of local businesses that can guide our students in the event that a student needs support in getting connected.
If you/your company is interested in mentoring a JCHS senior for a capstone experience, please contact the Capstone Coordinator (meghan.bonner@lcps.org) to be included in an on-going list for students that may need a place to connect. Thanks in advance!
PTSA
Our annual Teacher Appreciation Holiday Cookie Buffet is back on 12/16! We'd like to also show our appreciation by providing lunch, too!
Please sign up to donate items here. Or, if you're unable but want to help, please consider sending a PayPal donation to JohnChampePTSA@gmail.com
Don’t forget to set up Amazon smile on your app to support Champe PTSA before you start your holiday shopping!
Champe PTSA currently has 106 families in the Harris Teeter TIE program - Can you help us get to 200 by linking your VIC card?! Visit customer service to link your account or email your name and VIC card number to JohnChampePTSA@gmail.com
Thanks to everyone who volunteered and helped raise the final beam on the courtyard pergola! We are excited for students and staff to enjoy this newly improved outdoor space! Please join the PTSA today if you haven't; we'd love your support and participation in other events this year.
Senior Section Recap
As a reminder, graduation is scheduled for 7pm on June 17, 2022 at Eagle Bank Arena on the campus of George Mason University.
With that, the final round of senior payments are posted in the online payment portal! You can now pay for all things graduation, including caps and gowns, celebration lunch on the last day of school for seniors, and breakfast before graduation rehearsal. When you access the portal for the "Senior Activities" line item, you'll see a drop down list for the three graduation-related items. Please note that you will have to select each and click "add to cart" for each item. Please email meghan.bonner@lcps.org if you encounter any trouble.
Baby Ads for the Yearbook

Visit the yearbook order center; enter the school order code 13848 and choose "start an ad." All ads need to be submitted by November 15.
