Parents: Please contact the club advisor if you need to pick your student up early from club. The after school program that we contract with is NOT the same as the school-sponsored clubs. The after school program staff members are only responsible for the students who are enrolled in their program.

JUMP into the school year with the 2019/2020 Kids Heart Challenge!! We hope you will join us as we work to support the American Heart Association’s mission of saving lives. Sign up through the Kids Heart Challenge App (App Store for iPhone or Google Play for Android) or online at http://www.heart.org/kidsheartchallenge. Last year we raised $3,000, but this year we have set a goal of $6,000 to help fight heart disease! To help us reach our goal, we are taking a SLIME CHALLENGE!!! For every $20 a student raises, they will receive a cup of slime to SLIME COACH SANCHEZ, MS. BROWN or MRS. BRYANT!!! This years event will take place on Friday September 27th, informational letters and packets have been sent home with your student.

We would love for your 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader to join Running Club! This is a year long club which meets every Monday after school. Our end goal is to run the Cowtown Marathon together in February! *Each child who runs the marathon gets a free pair of shoes! Awesome! The cost is $25, which also covers the marathon entry fee! If you have any questions of if the cost will keep your child from participating, email Mrs. Cates at scates@harmonytx.org.

Grandparent's Breakfast continues through tomorrow! It has been great to see all the kids with their grandparents. Tomorrow, September 19th is for 4th & 5th grade Grandparents. Thank you to everyone that has been able to come.

The Scholastic Book Fair ends tomorrow! Books are available from 7-7:30 AM and 2:40-3:30 PM and also during Literacy Night. Come help your child choose some great books.

Also, if you would like to help out at the Book Fair, the teachers could use some help tomorrow. The time slots are short but it goes a long way!

Our first PTO meeting of the year is tomorrow, Thursday, September 19th at 5:30 PM, during Literacy Night. If you haven't already joined PTO, you can sign up at the meeting! We will get the ball rolling with some fun things for the year (Fall Festival!) and dinner will be served.

You will also have the chance to order your PTO tribe t-shirts!

Thank you to everyone who came to Chick-fil-A last week! We had a great turnout and it was so fun to see all the students and teachers hanging out inside together! We have the option of taking a check for $149 (12%) or a store credit of $297 (24%). Come to the PTO meeting on Thursday to vote on it!

Gratitude Day is celebrated annually on the 21st of September. The celebration of Gratitude Day allows both individual citizens and organizations within wider society to celebrate the broad meaning of gratitude in a variety of ways. We have so many things to be thankful for. On Monday, September, 23, we will celebrate by wearing pajamas. Yes, PAJAMAS! Wear pajamas!

Title III Parent Involvment Meeting will be held on Monday, September 23rd at 5 PM. We will review the ESL program, curriculum, changes, updates, state testing, and field trip info. Please join us!

Destination ImagiNation is a fun, creative competition. Our school is excited to have three teams this year. Tryouts are September 23rd; 3-3:45 PM for K-2nd grade and 3:45-4:30 PM for 3rd-5th grade. Applications and teacher referrals went out this week. Please return ASAP and email rbrown@harmonytx.org

The PTO has exciting news!! HSA-FW is now a part of the Kroger Community Rewards program. All you have to do is visit http://www.kroger.com. Once logged into your Kroger account you can search for HARMONY SCIENCE ACADEMY either by name or HK394 and then click Enroll. New users will need to create an account, which requires some basic information, a valid email address and a rewards card. All proceeds go towards helping the students & staff at our amazing school!

The Big Kahuna fundraiser kick-off date is next week on September 25th! We are partnering with Big Kahuna again this year with a new selection of catalog offerings. The timing of the fundraiser will allow you to shop for the holidays and help the school at the same time! Students will come home with the information on kick-off day. Get ready!

The new date for lunch application free dress is Thursday, September 26th. This is for students who had a lunch application filled out before August 31, 2019. Wristbands will be sent home this week. I apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you. Ms. Ramirez

Grace periods for last year's lunch status will expire on September 27, 2019. You can fill out an
application for this years free/reduced meals online at schoolcafe.com. Lunch applications should

Parents who would like to eat lunch with their child may make a reservation by emailing hsalunch@gmail.com. Reservations must be made by 3 PM the day before.

It's that time again!! The PTO is looking for amazing Tiger parents who want to help make a difference.

- If you sign up for PTO, do you have to do everything? NO. You pick and choose what you'd like to help with, if you're able to at all. But we have to say, one of the perks of helping out with the PTO is the Free Dress passes for your kids! For every two hours you donate, your child gets one pass. If you're not able to donate time, but can send an item for a luncheon, etc., for every four items, your child gets a pass. Our PTO President will send the occasional email with volunteer / donation opportunities and you decide what you can and want to do.

- Another one of the benefits of joining is to make friends! We also want to make HSA-FW the best it can be. Does that sound like you? If so, join us!! Membership forms were sent home but if you didn't get one, please email ptopresidenthsa@gmail.com. It is $10 for a family membership for the year.

Membership contest info: The class with the most PTO members by September 30th wins a $50 gift card for their teacher to spend in the classroom. The class with the second-most PTO members wins a $25 gift card.

So far, Ms. Evans (KB) is in the lead but there are several classes right behind her. Get your class some CA$H and join PTO!

Box Tops is going digital!! Download the ALL-NEW Box Tops app, add HSA to your account, shop as you normally would, then simply scan your store receipts to find participating products. The app will automatically credit your school's Box Tops earnings online.

We will still be accepting clipped Box Tops through 2020, so keep sending them into your homeroom teacher. Ask your friends & family to keep clipping and saving them for you, and you can even ask them to download the app & start scanning for Harmony Science Academy.

BREAKFAST IS THE MOST IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY! START YOUR DAY OFF RIGHT
AND EAT BREAKFAST IN THE SCHOOL CAFETERIA. BREAKFAST IS AVAILABLE FROM 7-7:25 AM. THE BREAKFAST MENU CAN BE FOUND ON THE SCHOOL WEBSITE, FRONT
OFFICE AND POSTED IN THE CAFETERIA.

Nutritious meals are available daily for a price of $1.70 for breakfast, $3.00 for lunch, and $0.50 for a la carte milk. Each student is provided a lunch account onto which money may be deposited. Households are also encouraged to create an account in School Café (www.schoolcafe.com). From here, parents may apply for free or reduced price meals, check account balances, make meal payments, set up automatic alerts, and set up automatic payments. If you need your child’s ID number, please call the school and ask to speak with the Lunch Clerk. Beginning September 3rd students with a meal account balance below the district limit of $10.00 will receive an alternate meal. Alternate meals consist of cereal, fruit, and milk for breakfast; and for lunch, a sandwich, vegetable, and milk. If a student is later approved for free meals, they will begin receiving meals immediately. However, the household is still responsible for paying the negative account balance. For more information regarding the meal charge policy, please visit our website at: https://hsafortworth.harmonytx.org/, and click on the “Meal Charges” link. Meal account balances may be checked online through the parent’s School Café account. To apply for meal benefits, please visit www.schoolcafe.com. The district name is Harmony PS Waco.

Students are not allowed to purchase a la carte items if their account has a $0 or negative
balance. If they are purchasing a milk, we will allow them one charge as a courtesy. The
Lunch Clerk will inform the student and parent that there must be funds in the meal account
for a la carte purchases. The next attempt to purchase a la carte items will be denied
until the account shows a positive balance. The district charge limit of -$10 applies to reimbursable meals only and not a la carte purchases.

A la carte snack sales have been postponed until further notice. We apologize for any inconvenience.
