Great First Week at DMS!
Dear DMS Families,
We had a great start to the school year on Wednesday. Arrival was smooth, and staff and students were very excited to be back. There were smiles and excitement all around the hallways of DMS. It was also great to have Superintendent Runey and Assistant Superintendent Souza, as well as Officer Hathaway and Oakie at our front doors to welcome students back to school over the course of the week.
We are all looking forward to a great school year!

First Day of School Paperwork
There are several reasons why we have moved our paperwork to the Aspen Family Portal. First, it allows us to streamline the back to school process and make it more efficient for everyone. Second, it allows us to collect your paperwork electronically, which reduces our paper waste. Third, it allows us to keep your paperwork secure and confidential.
Through the portal, families can complete the following:
- Update their personal phone number
- Update their personal email address
- Authorize student photo release
- Agree to Technology Take Home (MS and HS students only)
- Agree to Student Acceptable Use Policy
- Agree to Student Handbook
On paper, we ask you to complete the following:
-Student Information Sheet (as needed)/Medical Information (on the back)
-Lunch Form
We encourage you to log in to the Aspen Family Portal and complete your back to school paperwork as soon as possible. Here are some step-by-step directions to help you get started.
If you have any questions, please submit a Technology Helpdesk Ticket. Thank you for your cooperation.
Please complete all forms by Monday, September 8th.
A Note from the Nurse's Office
- Reminder for 7th Grade Families: A physical with current immunizations is required for all 7th grade students. Please have them submitted by October 15th.
- Medication Drop- off: Medications may be dropped off by parent/guardian beginning on September 5th, any time after 11:00 a.m.
- Medication Administration: When a child requires short-term or long-term medication during the school day, parents are required to contact the school nurse and provide: (a) physician's order; (b) parental consent; (c) medication (30 day supply) in prescription bottle. This includes prescription and over the counter medication. Parental consent (will be sent home on the first day) and physician order forms must be renewed every school year. As a reminder, ALL MEDICATION MUST BE BROUGHT IN BY A PARENT/GUARDIAN.
3rd Annual Dighton Firecracker Festival
Review of DMS Emergency Evacuation Procedures
As we begin school, DMS staff will review emergency procedures with students, so that they are aware of how to respond when a fire alarm sounds and we must evacuate the building. As a reminder to all families, a fire drill must be conducted within the first weeks of school as is required by Massachusetts state law.
Homework Folders
Homework folders are available for those students who would like to purchase one during lunch. They are $2.00 each. All other grade level supplies were sent to families in the June 25th Newsletter from DMS.
The Oakie Raffle
As you are aware, Oakie is our hardworking comfort dog at DES and DMS. If you would like to support Oakie through "Oakie's Oktoberfest," please contact Officer Hathaway at shathway@dighton-ma.gov to purchase a calendar.

Student Chromebook Repairs
In the event that a chromebook is damaged, lost or not working, please submit a Technology Helpdesk Ticket. Once the technicians have confirmation of the ticket, they will provide the student with a temporary device to be used while the damage is evaluated. If the damage is seemingly accidental damage, the chromebook will be repaired at no cost to the student. If you have any questions, please reach out to the DMS Main Office.
