Principal Simpson's Message
Greetings PRM Families,
December brings the signs of winter and all the celebrations and traditions associated with the season. We will also bring the 1st semester of the school year and 2021 to a close as we anticipate with great hope the positive changes of the new year. We have been working tirelessly to provide high-quality Montessori instruction and to equip students with the necessary tools to become productive citizens of the world. Your partnership means so much on our journey to success.
I invite you to participate in the learning process and build positive relationships with your child’s teachers by attending conferences, school events, and volunteering whenever you can. Your presence is always welcome. We have 2nd quarter parent conferences on Thursday, December 9th from 3:00pm-6:00pm. We hope that you are able to secure a preferred conference time by responding to the teacher's request directly or returning the conference letter that was sent home on December 1st.
We need your help. We still have a large number of students coming to school late every day. Please do your best to make sure that your child is at school by 7:45am. We also need to make sure that all students have a mask to wear at school. We continue to run low on our supply of masks because we are giving out nearly 100 or more each day. Covid is still here and our mask mandate is still in place. Please support us by making sure your child is on time to school and has a mask.
PRM along with all CPS elementary schools is participating in a COVID-19 surveillance program that offers pool testing every Monday. This program is optional and requires parental consent. Documentation was sent home with students last month. I have also attached an information flyer below. Please sign up if you are interested in having your child participate in this program.
It is my sincere hope that you will have a safe and enjoyable holiday season with your family and friends. We are excited about the classroom celebrations and community events that we are preparing to showcase the talents of our students and to safely celebrate the spirit of the season. Be sure to view the dates for upcoming events included in this newsletter so that you can plan to attend as many events as possible.
Love,
Principal Simpson

3-6 News
In language, we are continuing to progress with phonics and phonemic awareness skills as well as handwriting. We are learning how to retell a story that has been read. In math, we are continuing our work with numbers 6-10 and then moving on to shapes.
We have several days off this month; please refer to your calendar. Happy Veteran’s Day and Happy Thanksgiving!
Please make sure that your student is dressed for the weather. This should include pants or leggings/tights (underskirt), a coat, hat, and gloves. If you need assistance attaining warm weather clothing, the coat drive forms are coming home. Additionally, you can contact Ms. Monique Johnson for uniform assistance.
Please check folders nightly and empty them out. Please return the necessary paperwork. This is the main form of communication between home and school.
6-9 News
In the month of November 6-9 students explored various aspects of fall, from studying apples and corn to other seasonal agriculture. While we recognize that the celebration of various cultures should not be isolated to just a specified month, in light of November being Native Heritage Month, 6-9 students are learning about the important contributions of Native people to the founding history of America.
In Geography, students are exploring map studies, compass rose, as well as North and Central America. Some 6-9 classes have introduced land and water forms to help deepen student understanding of geological features and occurrences.
Students are continuing to develop their writing skills, as they work on different genres of writing such as journaling, opinion, narrative and friendly letters.
Please encourage your children to continue to practice appropriate hand-washing techniques and to wear their masks appropriately over their noses. Also, send to school extra masks should the one they are wearing become dirty.
