SMS Weekly Update

We hope that you and your family have enjoyed a fun and restful summer. SMS staff members are excited for the start of a new school year and are looking forward to welcoming students back into the building soon!

In preparation for the 2023-2024 school year, you may find the following information helpful:

August 17

• SMS Open House, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, and 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

August 30

• 6th Grade First Day of School & New Student Orientation

August 31

• First Day of School for All Students

September 8

• Picture Day

September 13

• Back to School Night, 6:00pm - 7:30pm

Additional events may be viewed on the SMS Calendar and the District Calendar.

Student Schedules will be viewable after 8:30 am, on August 16, 2023 via StudentVUE and/or ParentVUE. Locker assignments will also be available and can be found in the Student Information tab at the bottom of the page under “Student Locker”. If you are having trouble accessing ParentVUE and/or StudentVUE please reach out to the school.

SCHEDULES ARE NOT FINAL UNTIL THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.

Up until classes begin, small movement within the Master Schedule may result in student schedule changes. Please make sure you continue to check Student/ParentVUE until school starts. Unless a student has an incomplete schedule, has been placed in the wrong Math class, or a schedule shows incorrect information, requests for schedule changes will not be granted.

All grades are welcome to attend any of the following dates:

August 17: 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

August 18: 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

August 22: 10:00 am - 2:00 pm & 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Open House provides an opportunity for students and/or parents to pick up student schedules if needed, locate classrooms, and practice opening lockers. All students will have a locker assigned to them however the use of lockers is optional.

Entry for Open House will be through the Activities Entrance on the east side of the building. Stations will be arranged in the commons to pick up printed schedules and drop off donated supplies.

No elective class fee payments are required this year.

Front Office Hours: 7:30 am - 3:45pm

Student Hours: 8:45 am - 3:26 pm

(Except on scheduled Early Release days)

Doors Open to Students: 8:30 am

(Main Entrance and Activities Entrance)

Wednesdays: 2:26 pm dismissal (beginning on Sept. 13th)

The District will have one-hour Early Release days each Wednesday throughout the 2023-2024 school year beginning on September 13th. Please refer to the 2023-2024 District Calendar for the scheduled Early Release days. Dismissal for those days will be at 2:26 pm.

September 8th

School pictures will take place throughout the day during Science.

Photo packets will be distributed in class prior to picture day.

Please view the 2023-24 Device Protection Plan for more information and to enroll in the protection plan for your student this year.

For those families who may qualify for free or reduced lunch benefits, it is important that you complete the Free and Reduced Meals Application online or pick up hard copies from the office. In order to be eligible for additional benefits (such as reduced fees) you MUST complete and submit the Permission to Share Form which can be found on the last page of the application. NOTE: If you completed the Free and Reduced Meals Application online, the Permission to Share Information Form still needs to be completed and returned to your student's school or mailed to: 21920 SW Sherwood Blvd, Sherwood OR 97140. Attn: Gia Saporito.
