Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
This week at Canby High School was Kindness week. This consisted of a variety of activities such as giving someone candy to ask for forgiveness, doing acts of kindness to fill out a bingo card, and spotting students doing kind acts. All of these activities will culminate in an assembly. It is important to remember to always be kind to one another, and we strive to improve our already great community by being intentional about practicing kindness.
In addition to kindness week, the assembly tomorrow will honor fall sports athletes and kick off the winter season. We have a winter sports parent night this evening on Zoom here. As we begin winter sports, we would like to spotlight an event that happened this summer: the Wrestling Hall of Fame Induction. We are so proud of our community support and our strong tradition of excellence. Check out pictures and more information below.
Please note some important upcoming events and deadlines. Senior yearbook photos are due Nov. 18th, tomorrow (for more details, go to the Seniors section below). We are nearing the end of the 1st trimester. Schedules for students for second trimester will be available in StudentVue/ParentVue tomorrow. Final Exams for first trimester are November 30 and December 1. A more detailed schedule is below. In order to help students prepare, we are hosting a Cookies and Cram event on Nov. 28th from 4:00-6:00 pm.
The construction on our new wing continues. This week, large steel beams that will support the structure went up. It is exciting to see the progress. Our Leadership students also had the opportunity to work with Mahlum Architects and Bremick Construction to select furniture and decor for the new Commons space.
Lastly, there will be no Community Newsletter next week as we have a shortened week due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. This season is a great time to reflect and give thanks. I am grateful for our amazing students, staff, and community. I wish you a blessed holiday.
Best,
Cari Sloan

This summer, our wrestling program and alumni got together for the CHS Wrestling Hall of Fame Induction. This event recognized 131 individual state placers and 21 state trophy teams from 1948-2022. The event was held on August 6th in the FAC and was attended by around 400 people, traveling from all over the US to return to Canby. As we begin the winter sports season, we want to thank the Wrestling Hall of Fame Committee for making this possible: Norm Berney, Bill Scott, Larry Owings, Bob Bergen, Doug Sprague, Jack Bigej, Doug Kivett, Ken Buckles, Punk Hostetler and a special thank you to Jim Gadberry for all his work leading and organizing this event. Along with acknowledging our past alumni, a scholarship fund was created for future wrestlers and the alumni collectively raised over $17,000. This Hall of Fame and scholarship is a great way to honor our past and look toward our future wrestlers at Canby! Thank you Canby Wrestling Community!

Attendance at CHS
To ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our attendance process, please remember the following guidelines:
If your student needs to leave class for an appointment or because they are sick, inform the attendance office 30 MINUTES PRIOR to leave time. This will help us ensure that your student receives a note to leave class in a timely manner. Students will not be excused without a note.
Pre-Excused Absence: For any anticipated absence that will be more than three days, students are expected to pick up a Pre-Excused Absence Form from Jessie Munoz at the Attendance Office.
To report an absence, call Jessie Munoz at our attendance line at 503-263-7210 or email chs-attendance@canby.k12.or.us.
Students have 48 hours to have unexcused absences excused. Students may lose the opportunity to make up work for credit due to unexcused absences. Please report an absence as soon as possible.
Remember that attendance matters and students who attend class regularly are more likely to stay on track, graduate on time, learn deeply, and get the most from their high school experience.
Information for Seniors
