A message from our Lower Campus Head of School, Cutia Blunt
Hello GLOBE families,
We are halfway through one of my favorite weeks of the year - Peace Week! Each year during the last full week in October, GLOBE staff and students engage in an assortment of activities centered around a theme. This year’s theme is ‘Reach Out: Building Community’.
GLOBE’s amazing counseling team - Ms. Grant, Mr. Lawrence, and Ms. McKinnon - have collaboratively planned activities that will focus on daily themes of promoting kindness, community global citizenship, and of course…peace!
Here are some ways you can supplement our campus Peace Week activities at home.
Stop by your local library to check-out a copy of the children’s book Can You Say Peace? by Karen Katz, to read together as a family. You can also click here to access a short YouTube video of it being read aloud.
Participate in our Peace Week Service Project - Socktober!
Socktober is a donation drive that allows us to Reach Out to those in our community who may be less fortunate than ourselves. It’s meant to demonstrate that any act of giving, no matter how small, can make a huge impact in others’ lives. You can participate by sending in new, unopened packs of socks with your child who will then turn them into their homeroom teacher. Collection ends this coming Friday, October 28. We’ll then donate all collected socks to a local shelter - StandUp For Kids: Atlanta. In addition, you can donate other items (i.e. deodorant and backpacks) that you see on their wishlist. As a family, you can learn more about Socktober’s origin by watching this short video from Kid President!Provide support as your child completes a Random Act of Kindness for someone in the community. Examples include, but are not limited to - completing a task for a neighbor or parent, helping a friend with homework, writing a nice letter to someone, or donating food or clothing. All students who complete a Random Act of Kindness can win a prize! Pictures of the Random Act of Kindness can be emailed to Morgan McKinnon for 6th to 8th grade students, Scott Lawrence for 4th and 5th grade students, and Diane Grant for Kindergarten - third grade students.
Thank you for your support of and dedication to Peace Week 2022! Here’s wishing you and your family an abundance of paz, 和平, and paix in the coming days, weeks and months ahead!

Board of Directors
We are pleased to share that DeKalb County School District has renewed our charter for five years (the maximum renewal term). Our petition for renewal will now continue to the Georgia Department of Education.
Under the leadership of Jabari Clark, the board and a team of staff members have been working together on this charter renewal for many months, and our success with DCSD is a testament to the unique and enduring value that GLOBE provides to our community. Here’s to many more years!
Hispanic Heritage Month
We are busy putting together a selection of images and video from our Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations. These will be featured on the GLOBE website in the next few days, together with a link in the newsletter and on social media.
Lower Campus notes
Upper Campus notes
Peace Week is in full swing at Upper Campus. Students are taking part in various planned activities throughout this week, including Random Acts of Kindness, and the Socktober donation drive!
Orchestra 'Mentor Night'
On Friday, GLOBE orchestra hosted its first Mentor Night in a few years. Beginner 6th grade students got to make music with and perform for our 7th and 8th grade students, who helped them learn to bow open strings with a straight bow. We were visited by some of our orchestra alumni students who played along with us and answered questions about high school.
On Monday, 8th grade students travelled to Lakeside High School to perform a concert and have a night of mentoring and building a new community among LHS, Henderson Middle, and GLOBE. They took part in rehearsing and performing, doing a scavenger hunt to learn about Lakeside, and enjoyed a student-created haunted house and escape room.
Our Orchestra Fall Concert is tomorrow evening at 6:30pm in the auditorium. We hope to see you there!
Reading Club on Wednesday afternoons (grades 4–8)
There was a technical glitch with the Reading Club interest form in last week’s newsletter. Thank you to those who emailed us to let us know. This has since been resolved. The Upper Campus is offering the possibility for students to compete in this year's Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl (HRRB).
