SHS Meet the Teacher Night - August 28th
Date: August 28
Time: 6:00-7:30 PM
Format: "Free Flow"
Meet the Teacher will look a little different this year. Instead of a schedule driven by bells, you will be free to come and go as it fits your schedule. Our hope is that it better serves you, as we know that schedules can be really full at this time of year.
In this new format, you can pull up your child’s schedule using our new district app and follow it in whatever order and whatever timeframe you prefer. Each teacher will have a simple activity for you to engage in. Don’t worry, they will be designed to connect with you, not induce anxiety. For example, the teacher may have blank note cards on which you can write your child a note. The teacher can later give the card to your student when they need a little encouragement. We want to create an environment that is inviting and allows you to experience the essence of SHS!
Because this new format is so flexible, we would like to ask you to consider the following:
Please remember that there will be lots of families that will be trying to make connections with each teacher, so we would like to keep any greeting and/or activity lines moving.
Please avoid conversations that are better suited for a parent-teacher conference.
Please arrive in plenty of time to visit each teacher before the event concludes at 7:30 p.m.

Doors Open at 8:00am. Bell to go to 1st period rings at 8:15am.

Student Handbook
SHS has an addendum to the SISD Student Handbook. Please take some time to read through this addendum with your student(s). Please note adjustments to the following:
Cell phone procedures
Late work
Tardies
Semester exam exemptions
Cell Phone Procedures
While this is covered in the handbook, we wanted to be sure that all parents are aware of our practices with cellular devices.
- Each classroom is supplied with a pocket chart that will be used to collect cell phones and other cellular devices each day during each instructional period for the full 45 minutes.
- Cellular devices are expected to be turned off.
Cellular devices will be allowed during passing periods and during hour block lunch.
Confiscated cellular devices will not be returned to students, but rather they must be picked up by a parent or guardian.
Vapes
Please see upcoming district communication and/or the SHS Handbook for very important updates on the use, possession or distribution of vapes. New legislation regarding vapes has significant implications on public schools.
Hour Block Lunch
Formerly known as Power Hour, HBL will be used to support the academic, social and emotional needs of students. Below is a graphic of some of the academic supports that will be available for students and details about each. Please note that when these supports are assigned to students, parents will receive automated notifications via email. These emails will indicate date, location, the associated teacher, and what the consequences are if it is not attended.
HBL has been extended to 5 days a week this year, beginning Friday, August 25.
Students will also have time for eating, socializing, games, etc.

From Director of Transportation Todd Staley: 2023-2024 Transportation Update
The start of school is just around the corner. The beginning of school is always rough getting everyone transported. Our goal is to streamline the process by verifying everyone who desires bus transportation. Our desire is that no one gets missed. The following will need to be done each year moving forward. Doing so will ensure I have your child listed on the route for the driver.
If you rode a bus last year, please fill out an existing rider form on the transportation website. Use QR Code or the link below to get to the website.
If you are new to Sunnyvale or wishing to begin bus transportation, please fill out the New Rider Form on the transportation website at the link below.
All riders must read and complete the 2023-2024 Student Rider Agreement at the link below.
If you do not know which Bus you ride, check the website (link below).
Changes:
If you are in the Preserve, your new bus will be Bus 12.
If you live in the Stoney Creek Gated side, you will be on Bus 12.
First Day of School
Buses will run on a normal schedule on the first day. Buses will depart the lot between 6:45 a.m. and 6:55 a.m. If you rode the bus last year, your pick up time will be approximately the same time as last year for SES/SIS. MS/HS route will be between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. If you are out by the curb, our drivers will not miss you.
Get the APP!
The Viafy Parent App is a great tool to allow you to see your child’s bus. This will allow you to see when the bus is approaching. If you are not set up, contact Transportation to get credentials. Credentials are sent to the email used to enroll your child.
Thank you for allowing us to transport your child! Let’s make this a great Raider Year!
Thank you,
Todd Staley

SHS Parents: Pay For Class Fees Now - Don't Wait!
What Are SHS Activity Fees Used For?
Class activity fees are used to assist student leadership in planning and executing special events throughout the year. The fees are set based on the needs of the class - as you can imagine, seniors have more events and needs than ninth graders. A great example of an event would be homecoming.
These fees are recommended by not mandatory. A specified list is below. You may need to use your laptop to view them.
