Jack Stuart School - October 2023
In Our House
Administration Message by
Mr. Todd Sieben, Principal
Ms. Erica Easton, Assistant Principal
#JaguarPride
In reviewing a number of practices in the past, JSS came up with strategies to help students prioritize their academic and behavior targets, while being better prepared for challenges at school. So, we developed our school “Jaguar Pledge”. Our students and staff are “Proud of our Promise”.
Today I promise to:
Take care of myself
Take care of others
Take care of this place
I won’t forget my promise.
From our jaguar pledge grew our “School Matrix” to help guide the efforts of our students and staff.
Now … when our students get “Caught in the Matrix” by taking care of themselves, others and our house, they are presented with “Jaguar Cards”. Students are excited to submit their jaguar cards to the office “Jaguar Draw Box’. Each week two student jaguar cards are randomly selected from the draw box for a free lunch at one of our community restaurants/eateries, and each month we start from an empty draw box. In September 2023, 139 student jaguar cards were submitted into the jaguar draw box. Great work JSS students and staff, and thanks to the local eateries and our entire community for supporting this program.

Our first meetings of the year were held on Sept.27.
A discretionary fund of $3000 was approved and given to the school.
We have begun our first fundraiser of the year with Dielman Fundraising Sales(DFS). Catalogues and instructions were sent home with students on Oct.2.. You can find many more items online at dfscanada.com. Our school code is 7493.
Orders being delivered to the school for free are expected to arrive Nov.27.
Orders can be shipped to home much sooner, anywhere in Canada for $18.95 or free with a $150 purchase or more.
Thank you to those of you shopping at Save-On-Foods and donating your receipts to JSS. We receive 5% back on all receipts donated toward our school. On average we receive about $70-$100 back every month. Please continue to support this ongoing fundraising.
1. Shop at Camrose Save-On-Foods.
2. Tell the cashier at checkout that you would like to donate your receipt to Jack Stuart School.
3. Cashier will print two receipts. One for you and one for Save-On-Foods to keep to add to our fundraising program.
4. That's all!
Please join us at our next Parent Council meeting followed immediately by our Parent Society Meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 25th at 7 pm.
Hot Lunch
Volunteers are always needed for organizing and distribution on hot lunch days. Please text Shauna at (780)679-8994 if you can help on Oct.11.
School Picture Day
Lifetouch school photos will be taken Fri., Oct. 13.
Picture retakes are scheduled for Nov. 2.
Scholastics Book Fair
We invite all families to join us at our special Family Night on Mon., Oct. 16 from 3:00 - 6:00 pm. Bring your family and enter the draw for a chance to win $25 of free books!
We will have a debit machine running through the duration of the fair to make payments quick and convenient.
Hosting a Book Fair would not be possible without the help of parent volunteers. Help is especially needed on Family Night for collecting payments (to make that line run much quicker for all) and also during the week helping students with their purchases while the fair runs for classroom visits. If you are wishing to volunteer any time during the week please email Mrs. Biletski at sbiletski@brsd.ab.ca.
Jaguar Artists Club - Oct. 16 & 19
Ms. Broekhuizen would like to welcome budding artists in grades 3-5 to join her for a paint afternoon (after school) on October 16 and 19. Permissions forms and project details are found at the end of this newsletter. Please pick only one project 'Cat on Fence' or 'Night Pumpkin'.
Halloween Celebrations
We will celebrate Halloween on Tuesday, Oct 31. This will include:
students arriving at school with their costumes on - must be comfortable to sit in all day. No gory costumes (eg. blood ), no weapons.
in lieu of a costume parade, students will participate in homeroom celebrations in the afternoon
REMEMBRANCE DAY
by Mrs. Radchenko
For our Remembrance Day assembly we would like to honour loved ones in our lives who have served in the Army, Navy or Air Force. We are asking for you to please send a picture, along with the person’s name, rank and how they are related to your child(ren), by Monday, Oct. 23. If you could also indicate what grade/class your child is in that would be great. You can send in your pictures by emailing them to kradchenko@brsd.ab.ca, or send a hard copy, (which will be returned to you after the assembly). We will be showing a powerpoint presentation of our loved ones during our Remembrance Day ceremony.
If you sent in pictures for last year's presentation, please do not resend them. These contributions have been saved and will be included in this year's presentation as well.
