Next week in ELA, we will be continuing with the small group learning for Unit 3. We will be reading a memoir “From an American Childhood” and practicing vocabulary, and answering comprehension questions. We will also be analyzing the photo gallery on Urban Farming and students will be creating their own multimedia presentations to share with their group.
Mrs. Boyer's Reading Advancement Program
This week, we began our unit on the Great Depression. We read some interesting first-person perspective articles on living during the Great Depression. The students engaged in some very purposeful conversations. Next week, we will continue with the Great Depression and study the dust bowl. The skill we will focus on will be using context clues to help us understand the meaning of unfamiliar words. Students will do this through a carousel activity and by creating some of their own “nonsense word” activities.
MATH - Mr. Kolb
Accelerated 7 students will review for their CFA early in the week before continuing with Adding and Subtracting Expressions.
SOCIAL STUDIES - Mrs. Hess
This week, we finished Unit 3 by writing an essay about important freedoms protected by the Bill of Rights. Keep an eye out for your student’s grade on Skyward, this is the first CSA of the quarter! We also learned about Martin Luther King, Jr. this week and the important role he played in the Civil Rights Movement in preparation for Monday’s holiday. Next week, we will begin Chapter 11, Political Developments in the Early Republic. This chapter focuses on the nation’s major political parties under the first five presidents.
SCIENCE - Mrs. Arndt
Reproduction has been our theme this week and we will continue exploring how organisms use energy for different aspects of reproduction (1.e. Battling for a mate, protecting eggs) next week. At the end of the week we will have a CFA on chapter 2 concepts.
