iPads in the Music Classroom
Developing Musicianship Through Creativity
Unique, World Class Practical Course for Primary Teachers and Music Specialists
The use of iPads in the music classroom is rapidly changing expectations of what is possible in terms of composition, improvisation and collaboration. A host of iPad 'apps' allow learners to create high-quality, meaningful compositions in creative and intuitive ways. This in turn develops their musicianship and knowledge of music theory, and produces tangible products that students can be proud of.
This full day course combines the musical expertise of Ben Sellers, musician and director of Transformance Music, with the cross-curricular approach to raising standards developed by Chris Williams, co founder of Mr Andrews Online. Together, they offer apps and methods that demonstrate best practice when using iPads to:
- Create and perform compositions, improvise and evaluate music.
- Achieve NC Attainment Targets in music
- Engage students with challenging behaviour and SEN.
- Effectively integrate technology into the musical life of the school.
Teachers will leave with a grounding in key music-making apps and a wealth of effective, practical ideas that can be used immediately in the classroom. All activities will have clear links to the New National Curriculum and a strong cross-curricular emphasis. Popular film clips and digital games will be used as an engaging stimulus, and clear links will be made to the use of musical compositions to support the teaching of writing. The course will also provide simple and effective methods to create digital portfolios of pupil compositions and share content with the world in easy to produce "web-albums."

The day will include sessions on:
- Songwriting with Garageband: Methods for all abilities.
- Developing a school 'iPad Orchestra'
