We've had a great start to the year! Love having everyone back on campus and getting to know our new 6th graders. We have such great students, teachers, staff, and a wonderful community. Thanks for your support!

Social Media

Social Media is the best way to check in on life at RCE! One of our Assistant Principals, Mary Cate Garrett, runs our social media accounts and posts daily. Cora Wichelns, our Communications class teacher, has taken over The Panther, our YouTube channel. Please follow and subscribe to all of our accounts below. The Panther has a new channel this year, so please re-subscribe!

Guidance Addition

Our guidance department has grown this year with the addition of Katherine Crowe! Ally Young and Katherine are spending time in "minute meetings" with 6th graders, touching base with and getting to know all of our new students. Jessica Carroll and Maisey (our therapy dog) have moved to half-time this year, meeting with smaller groups as needed.

The Panther: Season 13: Episode 1

Congratulations to Jimmy Bardusk, our 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year. Coach Bardusk is a 7th Grade Social Studies teacher and is also our Head Football Coach.

Congratulations to Leigh Ligon, our 2023-2024 Support Employee of the Year. Mrs. Ligon is also a Finalist for District Support Employee of the Year.

We appreciate all these two do every day to make RCE a great place.

Over the last week, students have had the opportunity to sign up for clubs. Students should contact teacher leads if they are interested or have questions. We look forward to all students being involved in an extracurricular activities on campus this year.

Beta Club

Returning 7th and 8th grade students who completed all requirements last year will be receiving their welcome back letters next week. Please be on the lookout for these. Letters will detail meeting dates/times and information on how to run for an officer position.

Eligible 6th grade students and eligible new students to Edwards will be receiving a welcome letter the week of September 4th. This letter will detail information concerning a parent meeting and our induction ceremony.

There will be multiple times this year when students will have the opportunity to purchase Kona Ice Snow Cones at lunch. The cost is $2 and proceeds will benefit the 8th Grade Field Trip. The next opportunity will be Thursday 8/23/23.

School Picture Day will be during the school day on August 30th! Order forms will be going home this Wednesday in students' homeroom classes. Due to Legacy Studios green screen technology, please do not wear green.

Every year all students in SDPC (2nd-8th grade) participate in the Measures of Academic Progress or MAP test. MAP is given 3 times each year to look at student growth and achievement. This year our Fall testing will begin on August 29th ELA and August 31st Math. We will be on a school wide testing schedule in the morning. We ask that all students are present and that there are no dismissals before 10:30. Make sure students charge their Chromebooks and get a good night's sleep. We cannot wait to see the progress our students make this year!

If you have not completed the Final Forms (link) for your student, please take a minute to do so. It is very important to have accurate, updated information for all students. Thank you for taking the time to update.

The free lunch program has come back this school year. Any a la carte items or second meals will come with a charge.

We've remained committed to a 6 period day at Edwards Middle. This schedule allows for 1 hour in each period and the opportunity to participate in several related arts classes. This schedule has also allowed us to include several Pickens County Career and Technology courses for our 8th graders.

Eligibility

Per the South Carolina High School League (SCHSL), all 7th and 8th graders are eligible to play sports. 6th graders can contact individual coaches for possible managing opportunities.

Daniel High offers the following fall sports to RCE 7th and 8th graders: girls golf, girls tennis, swimming and cross country. Please see Daniel High (link) for more information.

Anyone interested in playing any sport needs to have their 2023-24 paperwork completed in BigTeams (link) prior to participation.

Tickets

Edwards Middle and Daniel High will continue using Hometown Ticketing as an online ticket sale option. All schools in Pickens County will also be selling paper tickets at the gate and accepting cash. Ticket prices for all 2023-24 athletic events will be $6 and will be open to purchase 3 days prior to each event. RCE Tickets (link)

Booster Club

The RC Edwards Athletic Booster Club supports all student athletic programs by purchasing equipment, uniforms, meals, maintenance, and many other things. All families are reminded that every student needs to pay the $25 Tech It Home device fee to cover a comprehensive insurance policy for your SDPC issued device. This fee can be paid via MySchoolBucks.
