Eastridge's Weekly Update for Students and Caregivers
Week of August 28, 2020
Face Masks Required
Principal's Message
Eastridge Families,
The month of August has flown by!! We have had a great 17 days of school with our Eastridge students! This week our teachers spent time assessing our students reading skills. All grade levels except for Kindergarten, took an assessment titled Developmental Word Knowledge Inventory. This assessment will provide the teachers with a snapshot of each student's word knowledge, helping teachers identify a starting level for your child's guided reading group. Students in Kindergarten took an assessment over rhyming and singing the alphabet song independently. Research shows that rhyming predicts future reading success.
Virtual Parents don’t forget that the district will continue to distribute breakfast and lunches for all VIRTUAL students on Tuesday and Friday mornings from 8:00AM-9:30AM at Moorhead Community Resource Center. The district has also added a Tuesday distribution time in the evening from 4:30PM-6:30PM. Thank you for continuing to use Moorhead Community Resource Center to support your device needs. Their hours of operation are Monday-Friday, from 11:00PM-1:00PM. Your technology needs can also be supported though submitting a helpdesk ticket through IncidentIQ Support System. If you are in need of a WiFi Hotspot, you can use IncidentIQ Support System to make the request or you can contact our office at (317) 532-3150.
Thank you for partnering with us in Warren Township for your child’s education.
Your Principal,
Mrs. Johnson
Eastridge Elementary PTA membership
Our PTA has a goal of reaching 60 members by October 1st. When this happens, the school will receive a special surprise at recess
Thank you for your support this school year!
Attendance
For the 2020-2021 school year, Warren Township has transitioned to a new student information system called Synergy allowing our parents and caregivers to have improved access to school information through the parent portal called ParentVUE. We are aware that at his time some students’ attendance records are reflecting students are absent, when in fact they were present. This is mostly the case for our students who are attending school VIRTUALLY on application days or in the VIRTUAL opinion full-time. We want to assure you that teachers are keeping accurate attendance records and that we are working to correct attendance records for all our students.
Safety Drills
I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know how excited the Eastridge Elementary family is about the start of the school year and to share our process for emergency preparedness. In an effort to make sure our students and staff understand and know what to do in the case of emergencies, we plan practice drills throughout the school year. Some of these drills include procedures we practice monthly, like fire drills, and some we practice only a few times during the year, like wind/tornado drills.
We wanted you to be aware of the types of drills that we practice together in the event of a school safety concern so that you can talk with your students about these situations if they should come home with questions. Students will be required to wear a mask during drills.
Fire Drills – Students and staff evacuate their classrooms and exit the building. All classrooms report to a designated location outside of the school building. During these drills, cars entering campus will be stopped by staff until our perimeter is clear of students and staff.
Wind/Tornado Drills – Students and staff report to designated locations in the building away from large windows and doors with windows. During this drill, our exterior doors will be locked so that all office staff can participate as well (masks will be required).
Lockdown Drills – Our buildings are secured internally and externally. Students remain with staff and wait for directions. During these drills, if you visit campus, you may see law enforcement agencies like Warren Police, parked on our campus supporting this practice.
Bus Evacuation Drills – Students practice exiting the bus using emergency exits upon arriving to school. During these drills, cars entering campus will be stopped by staff until our perimeter is clear of students and staff.
It is important to note that your student’s focus and cooperation during our drills is paramount. When drills are conducted, all individuals on our campus must participate, and that number can be upwards of 450 people. Paying attention, being alert and following directions allows for the best learning experience during the drills. Please reinforce this at home. Also, please know that if you are in the building when these drills are being practiced, you will be asked to practice with our school.
Health Forms
Immunization Record
In order for our schools to be in compliance with the state laws regarding immunizations, please make sure that your student(s) have their updated information on file with your school's nursing staff. All student vaccines must be on file and up to date by September 21, 2020 to avoid exclusion. Please make your school's nursing staff aware of any upcoming appointments for vaccines, or if there are any medical or religious objections to your student receiving his or her vaccines
Also, PLEASE inform your school's nurse of any chronic health conditions that the school should be made aware of, and that your student's medical emergency information is up to date.
Medical Emergency Forms
These forms came home the first day of school. It is very important to fill these out and return them to the school as soon as possible.
School District Publications/News Media Use
The occasion may arise when the school district wants to recognize your child or your child's school. This may include your child's photo, your child's name or your child's work in district publications, newsletters, on school district websites, and in electronic/social media or in staff training videos. We may also want to tell the media (including newspapers, television, and radio) about your child's achievements. We never knowingly release information about a student to anyone who wants to use it for commercial/political purposes. However, we will honor your request to not include your child in these types of recognitions if you notify your child's school office in writing that you do not want this type of information released.

Warren Early Childhood Center
The Warren Early Childhood Center is now enrolling children for both full day and half day preschool classes. ECC is a National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accredited program and is rated a Level 4 center on Indiana’s Paths-to-Quality.
Our staff works diligently to provide a safe and nurturing environment so the social and emotional needs of children can be met. We also believe in learning through play. Play is an important component of healthy brain development. It assists with developing social skills, thinking skills, problem solving and self-confidence; all the skills necessary for children to learn both academically and about the world around them. ECC accepts CCDF and On My Way Pre-K vouchers. Please call Mary Crabtree in our front office to make an appointment to register, 317-869-4751.

Yearbook
From Lifetouch:
Thank you for contacting us. I do apologize for the inconvenience. At this time the yearbook for your school is still in production. I am very sorry about the delay! Due to lab closures caused by Covid-19 we definitely fell behind. We are producing all yearbooks in the order they were submitted to us. We expect to print and ship all submitted books within the next 6 weeks. However, depending on when your book was submitted you may see it sooner.
