We want to introduce you to our new Principal of WKMS, Mr. Donald Hardie. Mr. Hardie has 20 years experience in education and began his career as a mathematics teacher at Airport High School. He has served many roles throughout his career, including Assistant Principal, Math and Virtual School Coordinator, and Principal positions.

Mr. Hardie has a wonderful wife, Suzy, and daughter, Joy. Suzy is a Professor at the University of South Carolina's College of Education and Joy is a middle schooler who enjoys ballet and ice skating in her free time. Mr. Hardie can be seen throughout the building "quacking" like a duck and getting to know his student family. He is a die-hard Gamecock fan and an excellent addition to our War Hawk family. WELCOME, MR. HARDIE!

School breakfast costs $1.60 and lunch is $3.10 per day. If you need to complete a Meal Application for financial assistance, please do so ASAP by clicking the link below https://www.lunchapplication.com/

Lunch choices will be made each morning by completing a digital form and meals will be delivered to classrooms for students to eat. Don't forget to complete the form each morning. Our lunch time is 12:38 - 1:18pm this year and all grade levels will eat at the same time.

Water fountains are closed due to COVID and safety precautions. Please have your child bring a clear plastic water bottle (already filled) each day to stay hydrated.

School procedures have changed this year, due to COVID. We want to do whatever it takes to keep us all safe and get us back to being face-to-face five days a week. In order to do so, we all need to be committed to do the following:

• Wear a mask that covers your nose & mouth (anyone entering WKMS is required to do so)
• Wash your hands OFTEN (a minimum of 20 seconds each time)
• Hand sanitize as you enter and exit a room
• Remain 6 feet apart at ALL TIMES. (This is the challenging one, but VERY necessary)
• Refrain from touching your face/mask.

Please be aware of our district dress code by visiting page 32 of the Student Handbook. Our goal is to keep students learning in classes and eliminate the need to call a parent/guardian to come bring a change of clothing due to a dress code violation. Quick reminders: shorts should be finger-tip length, no spaghetti strap tops or showing of the midriff area, and no hats, please. We appreciate you working with us to help make this year a great one for all!

This year is truly a unique one and good communication is more important than ever. If any of your contact information has changed recently, please email Tammy Wise at twise@lexington1.net, so she can enter the correct information into PowerSchool. We want to make sure that all families are well-aware of the happenings in our school and district and don't want anyone to be left out.

As our football and volleyball seasons kick off this year, we want to thank our amazing coaching staff! If you see them, make sure you tell them "Go Hawks!". There have been many changes and challenges already this year, but our coaches have dealt with them all with grace and true WarHawk Pride! Thank you, Coaches, for representing WKMS so well.
