BHS Takes First Place in Monroe County Envirothon Competition!
It was a great day to spend out at Ellison park competing in the 2022 Monroe County Envirothon! We sent four teams of five students each to compete in Aquatics, Soils, Forestry, Wildlife Management, and Current Issues. Students also prepared a presentation and presented in front of a panel of judges. They represented Brockport well and made us all proud!
A team of seniors (Laura Bishop, Emily Kiracov, Caitlin Minardo, Ori Hodge, and Lars Hartman) worked hard and earned a 5th place finish and a plaque.
A team of Freshmen (Dalilah Thomas, Victoria Fedysiv, Brenna Green, Ja'Lynn Taylor, and Addie Morici) earned the top score in the Current Issue event, and placed 4th overall - earning a certificate and a plaque.
Another team has been working hard for 4 years and we're able to squeeze in the competition between many AP exams. They are Cate Archibald, Lauren Dailey, Merin Squillante, Mackenna Nichols, and Jeffery Xue.
But the biggest shout out goes to the students in Katie Capella's AP Environmetal Science class (Sydney Horn, Makayla Haibach, Jill Cordeiro, Maya Benzan, and Charlotte Toland)! Since the AP exam last week they have been preparing non stop. They earned top scores in the oral presentation, and Forestry. This led them to Brockport's first ever 1st place finish! They won a huge trophy that can be seen (with all our other plaques) in the display case outside room 213. They will be representing Monroe County at the State Envirothon competition in Geneva on May 25th and 26th.
If you see any of these wonderful hard working students, please give them a well deserved pat in the back - they've earned it!!

1st Annual Brockport High School Day of Wellness
When: June 10th 10:13 am -2:13 pm
Why: The BHS Students in Action leadership class is hosting a Day of Wellness as a capstone project for the NYS Seal of Civic Readiness. In order to earn the seal, students must complete a Capstone Project that includes collaboration with their school community.
In considering their project, they reflected one of the most prominent post-pandemic concerns in education: students struggling with their social-emotional wellness.
To investigate their thinking, The Students in Action class conducted action research at Brockport High School through a student survey. The results of that survey overwhelmingly support that our students are struggling with depression, mental health, bullying, and other topics related to their social-emotional well-being.
What: Topics for workshops will center around mental wellness such as: Anxiety, Anti-Harassment, Diversity, social media, Peer Pressure, etc.
What we need: Community members attend our event and host workshops that center around the social emotional and overall wellness of everyone at BHS.
For more information or if you are interested in hosting a workshop, please contact Shannon Howlett at shannon.howlett@bcs1.org by May 27th.
