Message from Principal Jones Harris
December 5-December 19
Greetings Parents,
I am excited to inform you that our School Performance Score increased 2.3 points from 75.2 to 77.5! You are to be commended for partnering with your scholar's teacher(s) and for being an active parent in your child's education.
Thank you to all parents who attended Literacy Night! Literacy is a strong initiative across our state and district. Please be sure to engage your scholar in the activities shared and be sure your scholar reads at least 20 minutes each night!
Our School Performance Goal is to increase by 5 points for the 2022-2023 school year! To achieve this goal, we are committed to the following:
- Teach 100% of the Tier I curriculum to 100% of our scholars
- Teach at a higher level of rigor
- Implement consistent schoolwide instructional strategies and use data to drive instruction
- Prepare our scholars for standardized assessments
- Provide multi-tiered support for all scholars
You can help your scholar reach his/her yearly goals by:
- Ensuring he/she arrives to school on time
- Ensuring your scholar comes prepared and ready to learn each day with homework and all necessary supplies
- Ensuring your scholar reads 20 minutes each day
- Ensuring your scholar practices math facts
- Staying in touch with your scholar's teacher about any academic concerns
Please join us Tuesday, December 13, 2022 @ 5:00 pm for our Math Night!
With much appreciation,
Chief Special Agent,
Mrs. Vachella Jones (Harris)

Congratulations to our 2022-2023 Students of the Year!
Sage Fontenot - 5th Grade Student of the Year
Angelica Davis - 8th Grade Student of the Year
Alexis Perez- John L. Ory's Teacher of the Year Winner
Mrs. Alexis Perez has been elected as John L. Ory's Teacher of the Year! During the 2021 school year, Mrs. Perez displayed excellent leadership as a classroom teacher and mentor. Due to the kindergarten vacancy, Mrs. Perez taught two kindergarten classes simultaneously. Although there were many challenges, Mrs. Perez kept the joy of learning alive. Students participated in many standards-based fun activities, but the best experience was the culminating Kings and Queen gathering where scholars dressed as Kings and Queens to enjoy a royal experience. Mrs. Perez also organized kindergarten orientation and presented information to parents about John L. Ory's learning program. Mrs. Perez takes on leadership roles whenever she sees a need. The students in her classroom grow and are prepared for 1st grade by the end of the school year!

December- What bullying is and is not
It is important to distinguish bullying from other unkind, mean and harmful behavior. Calling someone a name or pushing someone once, being rude or having an argument with someone is not bullying. Of course, these behaviors should be addressed but may have different consequences and interventions, which is why the distinction is critical. To be defined as bullying, all three components must be present: (1) repeated actions or threats, (2) a power imbalance and (3) intention to cause harm. If bullying is identified correctly, there are various ways to address it.
