Saxton Newsletter 3.2.23

Thank you to everyone who supported the PTA & FOSS 100 Club in January. The winning numbers in the draw were 21 (£3), 30 (£6) and 7 (£12). The first prize was won by our very own Mrs Clubbs – congratulations! There is still time to purchase numbers for the February draw through ParentPay before the deadline of 20th Feb.

Does your business offer charity grant funding to employees? If so, we would welcome your support. We have achieved planning permission to erect a canopy outside Willow Classroom to give children a sheltered play space. We hope that this work can commence later in the term, but are still a little short of funding. If your business can help with funding in any way please do let Mr Weights know.

As you know, it is really important that all children attend school on time every day. Research shows that missing minutes of school accumulates and equates to significant loss of learning. Our current school attendance is 93% which is notably below the national average (94%) and our school target (96%), and we would really like this to improve next half term.

Don’t forget that next Friday is a teacher training day, and school closes for half term on Thursday 9th February.

Our school will be taking part in the Big Walk & Wheel event this year. This will start on 20th March. Eco Warriors will be encouraging everyone to walk, scoot or cycle at least part of the way to school during the event.

Treetops Forest School is led by Siobhan Bamforth who leads outdoor learning at Kirk Fenton Primary School.

Forest School holiday clubs are available over February half term Wednesday & Thursday 15th & 16th February at Bishop Wood, near Biggin. These are full day clubs from 9.30 – 2.30 daily.

SportsHead is back ........this half term holiday with more skills, drills, games and competitions!

Children can decide daily whether they are having a school dinner or packed lunch.

Please ensure you discuss the menu each day with your child so they can decide what they would like to order. Once they know their choices, they will choose this each morning with their teacher during registration.

Each day there are 4 choices, either the hot dinner, hot vegetarian option, jacket potato with a choice of toppings or a sandwich. The sandwich and jacket potato always come with a selection of vegetables/salad on the side and have the full pudding choice for that day.

Packed Lunches - if you are sending grapes in your child's packed lunch, can you please ensure that these are cut in half.

We are delighted to be able to have volunteers into schools again, and would welcome parents to help us. If you are able to give any time to us, either on an ad-hoc or regular basis, you will need to complete a DBS application. Please contact the office for more information.

Don’t forget that if you use Amazon Smile and have registered our school for donations, FOSS will receive a donation. This is a very quick and easy way to make money for our children, so please do remember to keep checking that your orders have been placed this way.

Help raise money for FOSS and label your children's school items. The soft plastic labels can be stuck on machine wash-care labels of clothes, but can also be used on shoes, dishwasher items and general school items.

Please be considerate when parking near the school crossing. If parked too close it can be very difficult to see if it is safe to cross, particularly at pick up time-thank you.
