Welcome to 3rd Grade!
Mrs. Nelson's Class
Happy New (School) Year!!
Welcome to 3rd grade! My name is Mrs. Nelson and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with your child, and your family, during this upcoming school year! This is my 21st year of teaching, and all of those years have been at Longfellow. I look forward to making this an amazing year with all of you!
I am from Oak Park, and still live in the community with my husband and my 5 year old son. A few of my favorite things include: Fall weather, Diet Coke, fancy coffee, gathering with friends and family, planning parties and other events, dogs, shopping at Target, the White Sox, trying new restaurants/coffee shops and returning to old favorites, decorating for various holidays/seasons, and of course: teaching!
I am a District 97 alum myself, and I also attended high school at OPRF and then went on to college at the University of Illinois. I also earned a master's degree in reading at Concordia University. This school year, I will be continuing to work on some professional development as I begin my second year of portfolio work towards achieving National Board certification in teaching.
I am looking forward to working together to navigate the challenges and celebrate all of the many successes that this school year will bring.
Communication is Key!
I will be communicating with you frequently so that you will know what is going on in our classroom. So that I can be sure that I am using your preferred email address, could you please reply back to me at anelson@op97.org, just to let me know you have received my first communication and that this is the best email address to use to reach you?
if you are an X (formerlyTwitter) user, follow our class @MrsNelsonGrade3 for additional updates and showcases of student work and activities.
Also, if your child goes by a shortened/different name other than what is on my roster, could you please let me know that as well?
Help me get to know YOU better
