Omro Student Earns Eagle Scout
Keefer Stapleton earned the Eagle Scout Rank, the highest rank a Boy Scout can earn, on February 6, 2024. Earning the Eagle Scout rank takes many years of hard work, service, and determination. Only about 5% of scouts ever achieve this award.
Keefer had to earn a total of 21 merit badges and 14 of those are required to earn Eagle Scout. Some merit badges can take 2-3 months to complete. Some examples of Eagle required merit badges are Personal Finance, Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, and First Aid, just to name a few. Keefer has earned a total of 35 merit badges.
Keefer also attended National Youth Leadership training 2 summers ago in Michigan. NYLT provides youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops and in other leadership situations.
Keefer is also a member of the Order of the Arrow, which is the honor society of The Boy Scouts of America. It is composed of Scouts and Scouters who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Scout Law in their daily lives as elected by their peers.
Eagle Scouts value perseverance, discipline, motivation, leadership, accountability, and achievement. These qualities can lead to tangible benefits such as college admissions, scholarships, military rank, and career. Earning the rank of Eagle Scout opens many employment doors throughout life.
This is just a small glimpse into what a Boy Scout must do to earn their Eagle rank. There is so much more that goes into scouts and so much that a scout learns that they will carry with them the rest of their lives.
Keefer says, “The Eagle Scout rank has been the most monumental achievement of my lifetime. It has taken me over 12 years to earn. The experiences I’ve had, the people I have had the pleasure of meeting, and the memories I’ve made, are things that shall stick with me for the rest of my life.”

Speech participants were: Achilles Jones, Haley Birschbach, Jaylin Hintzman, and taking third place was Logan Kiar. These students wrote a four to five minute speech on optimism providing great examples of how to be optimistic.

Key Club Promotes Heart Health Awareness Month 2024
February is Heart Health Month; an annual observance dedicated to raising awareness about heart health and cardiovascular diseases. It serves as a reminder to prioritize heart-healthy lifestyles, learn about heart disease prevention, and support those affected by cardiovascular conditions.
One of the best ways to help keep your heart healthy is by choosing healthy foods. The foods you eat can have a big impact on protecting your heart. The Key Club has collected some recipes full of heart healthy ingredients!
Fun With Legos
Students in Intro to Psychology had fun playing with Legos and learning about research methods. Each group was tasked with building something out of Legos and writing down the directions or drawing a picture. Groups then had to switch Legos and try to rebuild them using the directions. The point was that if the directions (operational definitions in research and experiments) aren't clear and detailed, it is very difficult to replicate.
Half Time Heart Toss
Key Club hosted a Half Time Heart Toss on February 8th to raise funds for the American Heart Association. February is heart disease awareness month.
Thank you to all who participated and to the AHA for donating some awesome prizes!

Notice of Annual Three-Year-Old Screening
The School District of Omro will be conducting a three-year-old developmental screening on Monday, February 26, 2024 at HB Patch Elementary from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children who will turn 3 years of age by September 1, 2024 and reside within the School District of Omro boundaries are eligible to be screened. The screening is offered annually to look at the areas of fine and gross motor skills, basic school readiness skills, speech sound production and communication. If a child is found to have significant delays after being further evaluated, programming such as the Early Childhood program or Speech and Language therapy may be recommended.
A letter and questionnaire about children’s development were sent to parents of children who are on the district's census list and within the screening age. If you did not receive a letter and questionnaire for your child, please contact Jaime Ellison at (920) 303-2300 x2249 or complete the screening questionnaire online at https://www.asqonline.com/family/5b4d1d. Appointments are needed to attend the screening. Please note that we do not screen children who do not currently live within the School District of Omro boundaries, even if you intend to apply for open enrollment for your child in the future. Contact your district of residence to inquire about their screening process.
