Due to the teacher work day at the end of quarter 1, there will be no classes in-person or virtual tomorrow, Friday, October 30. Have a wonderful weekend!

Families who elected to change their students school attendance choice from virtual to in-person OR in-person to virtual received a phone call from the office this week. If you haven't already been cotnacted, your students new homeroom teacher will provide information about accessing new classroom materials

• Students returning to in-person on Monday should bring all of the materials they picked up for home use INCLUDING their Chromebook.

Here are the November Menus

Stop by Brass Community School, located at 6400 15th Ave, this Saturday, October 31 beginning at 9 a.m. to receive a week's worth of groceries which including chicken, milk, hot dogs and more! The event is scheduled until 12, but will end when the food is gone.

This year, we want to avoid information overload for families. You can expect

• Wednesdays - Email updates & Take home folders (in-person) from grade level/teachers
• Fridays - Grewenow Gazette OR "Quick Hitter" principal update.
• Phone (robo) calls or text messages as important, time sensitive updates arise.
• Our regular attendance calls for students who are absent without family contact

Grewenow would like to start using more brief text message alerts about upcoming events, supply pick ups, and school closures for inclement weather or COVID related closings. To stay "in the know," use the info below!

Daily attendance is important for student success and required by law for all grade K-12 students whether they are in-person or virtual!

Communication is key:

• In-person families - if your child is going to be absent from school, PLEASE call the Grewenow office the morning of the absence. If they attend a medical appointment or have an ordered close contact COVID order, please email or send that documentation when your child returns.

• Virtual families, if your child is trying to login to their live session, but you are having technical issues with your internet connectivity, please notify your child's teacher or the office as soon as possible that they attempted to login. With this communication, and evidence that your child completed assigned work for the day, they can still get credit for attending.

• If your child is having consistent issues joining their live sessions OR only attending a portion, the Grewenow staff will contact your family to find a solution to resolve the problem.

4K: Monday-Thursday: 7:25 - 10:35AM (only)

Guidance from Kenosha Count Health Department and KUSD's Office of School Leadership

• All affected students and their families will receive timely notification via phone call
• All teachers will be using the district virtual platforms to that learning can shift to home for the duration of the closure/quaratine.

At this time, visitors are not allowed in KUSD buildings. If you need to turn something in or drop something off for your child, you can

• Drop something off, ring bell at Door 1 and place it in the Door way

If you need to pick your child up early, call the office ahead of time so we can have them ready. When you arrive, you can come to Door 1 and ring the bell, OR call the office, and we will send them out Door 1 (the new main entrance)

Each Gazette, we will share a tip for helping families talk with their students about virtual classroom etiquette. This edition, we encourage discussion at home about the importance of leaving ttheir camera turned on during instruction. This is helpful to teachers because

• They can read facial expression to gauge understanding
• The often ask students to "signal" (for example: Thumbs up if you think the answer is 25)
• They can see if a hand is raised for questions
• It creates a stronger class community and feeling of togetherness

If your student expresses apprehension to you about being seen on camera, remind them that they look just as "cute" on camera as they do in person. The picture tells the truth. Be proud!

Virtual families, students’ Scholastic school photos are available for pick-up. If you have not yet done so, please arrange a time to pick-up your photos by calling the main office at 262-359-6362.

*Photos can also be picked up on Thursday, our weekly material pick-up day.

Virtual students have a schedule that differs from the Grewenow school hours. Their school day is:

• Monday - Thursday 8:30AM - 2:15PM
• Friday 8:30AM - 11:00AM

Note: These end times are the last teacher period ends, but at-home work may continue past this time.

ALL KUSD meals are now FREE for all in-person and virtual students. For virtual families, KUSD moved to a regional daily distribution plan effective Monday, Oct. 5. Families are now able to pick up free meals for all children in the household who elected virtual learning at one location of their preference on a daily basis. Individuals picking up meals must still provide a student name and ID number for each lunch and breakfast pack they wish to receive, but no longer need to preorder meals.

Closest available daily pick-up locations and times to our boundary are

• KTEC West, 5710 32nd Ave., Door 13 from 10-10:30 a.m. and 1:15-1:45 p.m.
• Lance Middle School, 4515 80th St., Door 13 from 10:15-10:45 a.m. and 1:15-1:45 p.m.Lincoln Middle School, 6729 18th Ave., Door 8 from 11-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-2 p.m.
• Tremper High School, 8560 26th Ave., Door 2 from 10:15-10:45 a.m. and 1-1:30 p.m.

There are no NEW schoolwide material pick ups at this time. For those students whose teachers informed them of classroom specific items for pick up, you may come

• Thursdays 12:00 - 2:00 and supplies are able to be picked up at the Main Entrance.
• Any day of the school week, families may call to make an appointment to pick up supplies for their student.

Students can use Destiny to place holds on 2 books they would like to check out or use a google form. All tutorial videos and google form links are on the Grewenow Library webpage.
