Cowles Montessori Crier
October 3rd through October 7th
Thank you for your patience during the multi-week, parking lot construction project. We appologize for the inconvenience as a new section of the lot is poured, it must cure for 7 days without traffic. Please pay attention to the orange cones and changes to the traffic pattern as you drive in and out of the lot.
Hello from the newly carpeted Cowles Library
Hello from the newly carpeted Cowles Library! Over the summer the old carpet in the Library was removed and replaced with new. It looks great and the whole room feels bigger and brighter! As we get the new year rolling classroom teachers have been completing a new type of benchmark testing with their students so the library has been a busy place. Fortunately, we have all new student computers (YAY!) so it is going very smoothly. Unfortunately, not much of that time has actually been for Library class time. We’ll get there! To start out, we are just reviewing the things we have learned in the past; how to use a spotter card, how to check out books, how to act while in the Library space. Preschool and Kindergarten students may check out one book at a time, while first grade on up can check out two. Books are checked out for one week at a time and are to be returned by the student’s next Library time the following week. Books can be returned at any time in the Return Bin just outside the Library door. In the event a student forgets their book(s), they will not be able to check out more until the others are returned…. If a book is not returned for more than two weeks, the system will automatically mark that book as “lost” and assign a fine to the account. This does not have to be paid if the book is returned. The fine will disappear when the book is returned. If a book is actually lost or damaged the fine will then need to be paid so that the book can be replaced for use by other students. These fines can be paid in the office.

CALLING ALL BOOK LOVERS!
CALLING ALL BOOK LOVERS! I need volunteers! Our resident “book fair mom” has retired from organizing the Scholastic Book Fair and this duty has been transferred to me. I am looking for 2 to 3 volunteers each day the book fair is open to help run the show. I will also need multiple people for set up and tear down. Our first book fair is coming up in November (sometime between the 10th and the 18th) and I am working on creating a sign up schedule online. Watch for that in the coming weeks. If you know you are available and interested, please let me know! You can email me any time at erin.fidler@dmschools.org . I would love to have your help! If it’s one day for one hour… or every day of the fair. Any and all help is welcome!
