Message From the Superintendent
Ford Middle School Alum takes Leadership in Community Philanthropy
In the spirit of celebrating local excellence, we are delighted to showcase a remarkable young individual from our community who continues to make a difference. Meet Aaron Palhota (pictured below), a former student of Albert F. Ford Middle School, and currently a proud member of Fairhaven High School. Aaron is not only excelling academically but is also demonstrating strong leadership qualities as he works towards achieving the prestigious Eagle rank in the Boy Scouts.
A significant part of the journey to becoming an Eagle Scout is the completion of an Eagle Project, a task that has a meaningful and lasting impact on the community. Aaron's Eagle Project involves the construction of a sports ball collection bin for GiftsToGive, a philanthropy factory located right here in Acushnet. The objective of the project is to make it easier for members of the community to contribute to this worthy cause.
GiftsToGive, a well-known local philanthropy organization, is dedicated to helping children in need. The sports ball collection bin that Aaron constructed will be placed at the Ford Middle School gymnasium door, near the parking lot, making it convenient for individuals to donate gently-used sports equipment. By doing so, Aaron aims to encourage more people to contribute and help provide underprivileged children with the opportunity to enjoy sports and physical activities.
Our school district is happy to support such a cause. This will be a testament to the sense of community and collaboration that thrives in our area.
In closing, we applaud Aaron for his dedication to the community service and commend his commitment to the values of scouting! Keep up the excellent work, Aaron, and congratulations on your journey towards becoming an Eagle Scout! Acushnet Public Schools and your community are proud of you!

Dear Families,
We greatly value your input and would like to invite you to participate in a brief online survey to share your experience with Acushnet Public Schools. Your feedback is crucial in our ongoing efforts to provide high-quality learning experiences that address the needs of our students.
The Panorama Family Survey is scheduled to begin on November 7, 2023, and will remain open until November 14, 2023. You will receive the survey via email from Panorama Education, sent to the primary contact for each student. In cases where we don’t have an email address for the primary contract, the survey will be sent to the secondary contact’s email address.
We sincerely appreciate your thoughtful responses and your commitment to helping us improve. If you have any questions or require assistance regarding the survey administration, please do not hesitate to contact me at angelaruggeri@acushnetschools.us.
Thank you for your cooperation!

Helpful Password Tips!
We are bringing this helpful tip back up to hopefully catch anyone else that has not enabled 2-step or MFA.
Ideally, you should change your passwords every month. With so many accounts and passwords, it can get overwhelming quickly. Given that, you should at least change them every 3 months, plus any time there is a security concern (such as when you see alerts indicating that someone tried to access one of your accounts, say, for example, Facebook).
Here are a number of insights and recommendations that should help keep your passwords and accounts a bit more secure.
1. Use longer passwords with upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols.
Every character in a password increases its complexity and the time it takes to hack exponentially. Create passwords of 10+ characters using upper and lower case letters, numbers AND symbols for maximum effectiveness. Mis-spell words and mix symbols into and between them. Here are two examples:
G00d&$e(uritee (Good Security) - 14 characters
Dunk1ND0nuts& (Dunkin Donuts) - 13 characters
2. Use mnemonic tricks to help with passwords.
An easy way to add complexity is to include a reference to something you see daily. For example, if you drive by the Creamery or Dunkin Donuts every day, you could add Ic3Cre@m or D0nut$ either before or after a smaller password like driving. Now you have a password you are familiar with, made significantly stronger and still easy to remember.
3. Use "Sign In with Google".
This is showing up more and more. Once you have signed into your Google account with your properly long and complex password, you can single-click into a number of related (educational and otherwise) accounts without having to have a password for each.
4. Avoid personal information in passwords.
Phone numbers, spouse and children's names and so forth are readily available online and on social media and make for easy hacking starting points.
5. Don't re-use passwords.
Avoid using the same password (or derivatives) for different accounts. For example, if your password is Puppy2022-credit for your credit card account, don't use Puppy2022-mortgage for your mortgage account. If one account gets compromised, it creates an easy path to access other accounts.
6. Never Text or Email your passwords.
If your phone or email gets compromised, hackers now have easy access to other accounts.
7. Use 2-Step Verification/Authentication whenever possible.
This adds another layer of security to your accounts and usually provides you with timely alerts any time someone tries to access your accounts. You can then change your password and take appropriate further security measures to block access.
Following these guidelines helps us be a safer community and we are stronger together!
