Last Day of School June 11-half day!
Math-
MCAS is done! The students seemed to try hard on the test, and there were no problems with the technology. I have decided to end the year working on an 8th-grade topic of equations. This section can be difficult, but the students have been working hard to understand the material. There will be a few videos they can use to review the material, but this section should help as they transition to 8th grade. There will be 2 different math classes next year. One class will be an 8th-grade class math class that will be very similar to my class this year in work and difficulty. Every 8th grader will take this class. The other class will be an advanced math course that will be taught during H block. There was a placement exam in May, and the notification of who made it in the class will happen sometime before school ends. This extra math class will include homework and tests. This class offers students to take geometry as a freshman with the intention of offering them AP Calculus BC as seniors. They are still required to take 4 years of math in high school. You will be able to opt out of this class when the notifications come out.
English-
MCAS is over! The kids did a great job and gave it their best effort!
We will be continuing down the mighty Mississippi River in the novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer! The students have taken their final exam on the novel and will hand in their “Tom” essay by May 31st. There will also be a short in class project before we pack the novel away.
Please keep checking Google Classroom for updates and homework!
Summer and summer reading are almost here. This summer the kids will be reading The Outsiders! Check out our school's summer reading link on the school's website. It has everything your child needs to help them through the summer reading assignment.
Science-
This month, we have been very busy (just like molecules being heated up) as we have studied different types of energy as well as worked on our Technology and Engineering Fair Projects! During the final weeks of the school year, the students have formed teams and competed to earn the most points for designing a project that meets all requirements and adding difficulty to get a higher score. The Tech/Engineering Fair was held on May 29th and the students did a great job presenting their findings. Thank you to the parents and staff members that came and voted. The winning team for each project will receive a prize. Winners to be announced soon! Please check Google Classroom for updates, assignments, and other science announcements!
Social Studies-
Reading-
Students did a great job presenting their Google Slides proving the similarities between Anne Frank and Jackie Robinson. Well done! The remainder of Reading class will be focused on summer reading. Using a hyperdoc, students will complete some background activities as well as familiarizing themselves with the characters of the book, The Outsiders. We will learn about the author, the time period, the setting, and the main characters. Students will get a jump start on their summer reading and tackle the first few chapters. Comprehension quizzes will be given, so pay attention in class!
I enjoyed this school year and wish everyone a super fun summer!!
