Vocabulary Parade April 20th
Let's Come Ready for the Vocabulary Parade.
On April 20, 2023 we will dress up as our word of choice and march in a parade. This day is also Earth Day so we will select words that are related to Earth Day or STEM.
The instructions are included in this blurb so that you can prepare for the parade. I look forward to seeing you all wearing your word costumes on April 20th.
End of Tutoring
Reading tutoring will end on Friday, April 14, 2023, and Math tutoring will end Tuesday, April 18, 2023. Please make sure your child attends these last days in order to complete the assessments that are given to monitor progress.
Parent University is April 19, 2023
At our next Parent University, we will discuss testing and what the data we collect from these test means. Also, we will share information about test anxiety. Please come and learn more about the testing process.

Please note, we have implemented a Google form for submission of absences/late arrivals and notes. This form is the only acceptable method of communication and must be utilized for reporting absences/late arrivals and uploading doctor/medical notes ONLY for your student(s). Notes from the School Nurse
Hello Parents/Guardians!
As we are now into cold/flu season and also still dealing with COVID-19, this note serves as a gentle reminder regarding a few things related to student health.
WHEN TO KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME FROM SCHOOL
1. Sick children need to be kept home from school; to include excessive coughing, sore throat, runny nose/congestion, vomiting, and/or high body temperatures (fever). Resting at home will help them get better more quickly and will prevent them from exposing other children or the staff to their illness.

3 More Saturday Academy Sessions
We will meet for 3 sessions on Saturday. April 15th, April 22nd, and April 29th. Please make sure your scholar attends in order to complete the final assessments we use for progress monitoring.

The week of April 17th, will be the last week for tutoring
Your scholar received a permission slip for the field-trip, please sign it and return as soon as possible. The payment must be made by clicking on the QR code that is located on the permission slip. All parents that have been cleared and that were selected for this field-trip will be notified by your scholar's teacher for your confirmation.
*All students must pack a bagged lunch for the field-trip. (No Nut products), please provide something for your scholar to drink and a snack for the afternoon.
As we prepare for our Kindergarten promotion ceremony which will take place in June, we will send out a save the date when it is finalized. We would like to have a baby picture of your scholar to use in our slide show. Please send the picture to your scholar's teacher’s email, which can be found below.

As a reminder, photos will be posted to Class Dojo and displayed during our Kindergarten Promotion video and celebration. If we do not have your permission to use your scholar's photo, they will not be included in videos and such for the promotion ceremony.

ELA: We will review all about sentence structure and practice writing correctly with lined paper. We will also review verbs and nouns. Our sight words for the week are also a review:: pretty, all, now, your scholars will use them in a sentence and practice writing them this week. For phonics we will review "ar” and “or” words.
Math: We are completing topic 14, and will have our assessment on Thursday. We will describe and compare by length and height. We will identify objects that are shorter than another object, and describe and compare objects by capacity. We will identify the differences between more and less when comparing the capacity of something.
Science: We will continue to talk about life cycles; asking questions: What is a life cycle? What has life cycles? What do you know about any life cycles? What happens in those life cycles?
Social Studies: We will continue to learn and identify how we keep track of time. We discuss schedules, clocks, and the use of calendars. We will review days of the week, months of the year, and the seasons.
Friendly reminder: Class Dojo is one of our main forms of communication for any classroom activities, events, and messages. Please make sure that you are connected to your scholar’s Class Dojo. Teacher emails and the communication folder are other ways to stay connected as well.

Please provide a nut free snack for your scholar daily. Your scholar should have a full set of extra change of clothes that are labeled with their name (uniform) that can be kept in their cubbies.
If your scholar’s form of transportation changes for dismissal, please complete the necessary forms and upload into the document, as well as notify your scholar’s teacher.

We had a wonderful week in second grade! It was great to see that everyone had a restful Spring Break.
On Monday, we will be going on our field trip to the Baltimore Museum of Industry. Students will need to bring a bagged lunch for the trip. Next week in Reading, we will finish up Unit 4 Week 1 in ELA. Throughout the week we learned about vc/c closed syllables, cause and effect, and biographies. Students read a biography about Elizabeth Blackwell, the first female doctor in America.
In Math, we are learning strategies to add within 1,000. Please practice these skills with your scholars at home.
In Science, we will be learning about plants and animals. This will include life cycles and how plants and animals benefit from each other.
In Social Studies, we will be learning all about different kinds of heroes.
Now that the weather is warming up and Spring has sprung, seasonal allergies are in full effect. Please feel free to donate any tissues to the classroom.

This week in Math, scholars are using metric units to measure capacity and mass of objects. They will also use models and tools to understand elapsed time.
In Science, scholars are exploring adaptations and survival strategies organisms use to live in their environments.

We strongly encourage parents to check SchoolMax weekly to stay abreast of your scholar's progress in all academic areas. Students can redo eligible assignments within a week of being posted. Weekly check-ins with your scholar about his/her grades is a great way to set goals and reflect on progress.
We are in need of hand sanitizers, disinfecting wipes, and facial tissues. Allergy season is upon us and we would like to continue to keep our classrooms germ free.

This week in RELA, we have moved into Unit 4 in MyView and are continuing to work in Chapter 9 in Social Studies. We are wrapping up our writing theme of Opinion Writing and will be migrating into Science Fiction! Interesting! Let's go Tigers!

Welcome back! In RELA we are moving right along! This week and next, we are working on Unit 4 Week. 1. We are focusing on Historical Fiction, Adjectives, Word Parts: -com, -con, pro. In writing, we are working on Science Fiction Writing.
Social Studies:
Tigers! We are learning about our nation and the Civil War. We are also learning about the Reconstruction of our nation after the war.
Science:
In Science, students will recognize that there are moons, asteroids, and comets in our solar system.
Math:
This week in Math, we will be working on writing numerical expressions. Students are expected to write simple numerical expressions that show calculations with numbers.

Greetings,
Tigers have presentations this week and next. Classes will primarily consist of independent work to finish their projects and critiques. Projects include portraits, landscapes, cityscapes, abstract, and other activities that develop their understanding of depth of field and value. We will continue to stress craftsmanship as a priority.
Music
Students in grades 3 and 4 will need their RECORDERS starting the week of April 24th! I’ll place Amazon links below, but feel free to find any color SOPRANO/GERMAN/C recorder on Amazon, online, or in stores! There are awesome deals if you buy a pack of 3-5 to split the cost with friends/classmates. I still have a few left in my extra’s pile. Make sure to dojo message me or email me if you’d like to claim one for your student.
Students can bring their recorder in at any time to place in their class drawer in the music room! Be sure to put their names on their instrument before sending it to school.
Technology
K-2 practiced: Keyboarding: Locate and Type Letters P, Q, R, S, and T
In this engaging and interactive digital lesson, The learners receive direct instruction and practice in keyboarding the letters P, Q, R, S, and T as they locate and type the letters, recognize the letter sounds, and learn the relationship between the letters on the keyboard and on the screen during this engaging and interactive digital lesson.
3-5 practiced: Tynker- Troubleshooting
In this course, students learn about the different types of errors that can occur when we work with computers and how to help troubleshoot them.
