"Stay in the Loop" 13th Edition
Letter From the Principal
While I know many of you may have heard me share this story, I feel like Catholic Schools Week warrants repeating why I chose Catholic schools. I grew up with a physically disabled sister in the 70s, so attending a Catholic school was not an option for my family. Instead, we attended a Gahanna school just a few houses from where we lived. I LOVED going to school each day and my goal was to become a teacher in my public district; however, God had another plan for me.
I firmly believe fate placed me in a Catholic school for my student teaching experience, because it was almost immediately that I felt the Catholic school difference. When a member of the community was in crisis, everyone pulled together to help the family in need, which demonstrated a whole new level of community for me. At the time, our country was involved in the Gulf War. Each day, we gathered together in the hallways, held hands, and prayed a decade of the Rosary for an end to the war. Additionally, there was a strong emphasis on thinking beyond ourselves to serve others and make a difference in the world. Within weeks, I knew I was called to teach in Catholic schools, and I'm incredibly proud to be able to lead at a Catholic school where I can help form our future disciples of Christ.
During Catholic Schools Week, our students had the great opportunity to hear vocation stories from several people with SPX connections last week. As always, Fr. Dave demonstrated how gifted he is with sharing a message that children will remember. We are grateful for his faithful witness to his vocation. See below - his video was too good to not share!

Friends Across Time
Our fifth graders had the great opportunity to participate in their first Friends Across Time meeting last week. This inter-generational program partners our fifth graders with senior buddies from SPX or Seton parishes. During their monthly meetings, they spend time getting to know one another, play games, and participate in service activities. During this month's meeting, they created valentine door decorations for residents at The Bickford, an assisted living home for seniors. We'd like to thank Mrs. Moriarty for all of her research and organizational efforts that she gave to get make this valuable experience happen for our students. We are confident the students and seniors will both benefit from these new relationships!
SPX Teachers Make Learning Irresistible!
The 2nd graders enjoyed exploring "old" technology in social studies!
In Spanish class, students talked about Mexican lucha libre (wrestling) and how it is a pop culture phenomenon in Mexico. The students were excited to see Xander's luchador mask!
Our Algebra students enjoyed using their own measurements along with graphing calculators to tie in real world data with technology.
Our 7th graders were challenged to build the tallest tower which led to making connections between building the towers and building the early Church. Both needed teamwork, different gifts and talents, leaders and workers, planning, and a strong foundation.
