Cub Connection

Hello CELC & MVLA Families,

Creekside had an amazing week filled with laughter, studying our color of the week (yellow), finishing up iReady assessments, and our kindergarteners enjoyed a Teddy Bear Picnic. We are thankful that the District allowed us to invite parents on campus. The weather was HOT but we made the best of it and found shade throughout the campus!

CELC (K only) and MVLA are excited to start Mad Science in October. Each class will have a two week rotation of science lessons with "Mad" scientists. CELC is also looking forward to beginning AEF's Wheel of Experts Program in the coming weeks. This program will serve TK and K students.

The District continues to be guided by California Department of Public Health and our experiences from last year. Thank you for your support while we navigate the 2021-22 school year.

Important Updates and Information:

• Please take a moment to vote for our School Site Council. Click here to vote.
  
• As a reminder, CELC official start time is 9:05 am. Students are not considered late until 9:06 am. The gates open at 8:45 am to allow a small window for breakfast and for families that have multiple drop off times.
  
• We filled out PTA Board, however, if you are interested in being on a committee, we could use some help planning and organizing our Annual Turkey Trot in November.
• Please consider joining the PTA. Membership information is attached below! We will also have a table set up out front one day next week. It will likely be Thursday but we are waiting our our shirt order to arrive. Checks or Venmo are accepted.
• Please take a couple of minutes to fill out a media release form. We would love to start posting pictures of what is happening in the classrooms. :) Click the link here: MVLA Release Form OR CELC Release Form. We still have many families that haven't been able to do this yet. It is super important! We would like to start sharing more pictures of what our students are doing in the classrooms.
• Thank you for the continued donations of water. With the heat, we go through them fast. We can always use more donations of water bottles: 8oz or 16oz. If you are willing and able to help out, please drop the water off at the school office.
• AUSD's next Kindness Dress Up day is Wednesday, October 6th . "Team Up For Kindness" and wear your favorite jersey.
• The District is planning to welcome volunteers on campus and open up field trip opportunities on October 4, 2021. You may pick up a packet at the office so that we can get you cleared and ready to start ASAP. You will need a current TB test. Please stay tuned for a communication with more information from the district.
• Families are welcomed on campus to drop off and pick up their students at the classroom door and then leave immediately after.Thank you for your support with this procedure. We understand it is difficult some days but please follow our protocols so that we can continue to allow parents on campus.
• Students can be dropped off at the curb in the morning as long as their is a staff member present and it is before 9:05 am.
• Chromebook distribution for incoming Cubs or students that are new to our district occurs daily in the school office. The best time to come is after 9:05 am or 15-20 minutes before pick up. Our office staff is usually assisting with drop off and pick up. The forms will be available in the office. You can also print them ahead and fill them out. See attachments below. WE RECEIVED A SHIPMENT OF CHROMEBOOKS :)!

We are in search for a School Site Council. Please let the teachers know if you are interested. We will meet three times this school year. The SSC meetings dates and times can be determined with the parents and will be as flexible as possible.

Ms. McCalley and Mrs. Ripke will be meeting with MVLA middle school students on Wednesday, September 29th do discuss leadership opportunities at CELC. We are excited about this new partnership.

Please consider joining the PTA. We are exited to be planning what looks like a more "normal" year filled with fundraisers, events, and field trips. Our PTA helps sponsor these actives and they need your help! Click to view and print the membership form. You can also pick up a form at the office. The PTA is planning to set up a table in front of the school next week. They are just waiting for our shirt order to arrive.

Monday, September 27th is picture make-up day at CELC. If your child was absent, we will make sure they get their picture taking on the 27th.

What a joy to see and hear the fun on campus during our three Teddy Bear Picnics! Our Cubs and their families are the best! Here are a few pictures from our picnics.

As you have heard, AUSD recently incorporated a digital program called i-Ready into our district-wide curriculum. This program is being used in grades kindergarten through eighth grade and encompasses both assessment and skills practice in reading and math. Our MVLA students recently completed their first diagnostic assessment and the results will be shared with you by Thursday, September 30th. Kindergarteners are finishing up assessments this week. We are working hard to try to get reports to parents on or before the 4th. We will also be attaching information from i-Ready that will help you understand and interpret the report. Additionally, AUSD will be hosting an i-Ready Parent Evening on Monday, October 4th from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM via Zoom. The first 30 minutes will be a presentation explaining how to interpret the results and the final 30 minutes will be an opportunity for you to ask questions. We hope that you can attend this very important evening. The Zoom link will be sent out at a later date. If you are interested in reading about iReady data ahead of time, I have attached the document below.

Below are the forms needed to pick up your student's Chromebook and/or renew your insurance from last year. Copies will also be available in the school office. All CELC TK and K students need a device to use daily in the classroom.

Mrs. Ripke will continue the Cubs in the Community tradition. Her goal is to connect with 100 Cubs (Future, Former, or Current) by the 100th day of school. Building relationships with our students is important to us! If you see Mrs. Ripke out in the community, encourage your student to say hi. Not only does it create an opportunity to connect, it also supports students' language and communication skills. Follow the sightings on our FB page. Feel free to share our postings to spread the word. Mrs. Ripke looks out for future, current, and former Cubs! Mrs. Ripke spotted three Cubs this week.

Please contact Stephanie Green in the office if you have any questions about PTA and any other volunteer opportunities. AUSD's goal is to begin allowing volunteers on campus beginning October 4th. We are so excited to start utilizing parents, guardians, and family members to support our teachers and students. We have missed our volunteers SO MUCH!

We have a need for adult volunteers to help clean out some spaces on campus. If anyone is willing to volunteer after school or on the weekend, please let us know.

We are excited to see progress on our playground project. We are waiting for a second and possibly third load of bark before we are able to open the play structure. We are hoping to open it in the next two weeks. The new and improved rubber bark is not only safer, it is way prettier too!

Join our AUSD family in utilizing resources at www.actionforhappiness.org. They have monthly themes and ideas to help keep us Happier-Kinder-Together!

Self-care isn't selfish, it's essential. No-one's perfect. But so often we compare our insides to other people's outsides. This month is Action for Happiness is encouraging everyone to be kinder to themselves (as well as others), especially when things go wrong. Self-care increases our resilience and helps us get more out of life. It also helps us accept others as they are too.

Creekside currently has three part-time job openings: Instructional Aide, Preschool Teacher, and Child Nutrition Assistant.

The district would like to increase the number of substitute teachers in our pool. The pay has increased to $200 dollars a day. Please help spread the word. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Mrs. Ripke.
