Encore Weekly Showcase
Highlighting outstanding work from learners in Encore!
We hope you enjoy!
Many learners have gone above and beyond in our special content areas, and have really shown their creativity, resourcefulness, passions and interests in the work that they've shared with their learning facilitators! Keep up the great work! New work will be featured here each week!
Band, Chorus, and Orchestra ensembles
7th and 8th grade chorus met a composer on Zoom!
Amy Gordon, a young choral composer from California, commissioned a piece for the 7th and 8th grade chorus that was going to be performed in May called "The Moon's Tears." This was funded through a grant from MCFEE! Amy Gordon was able to join one of the 7th and 8th grade chorus zoom meetings recently! It was so cool to hear from the composer herself! Some reflections from learners in chorus who attended are below. It really was a wonderful opportunity and lots of great questions were asked!
5th and 6th grade chorus concert "performance" of "We Can Dream"
Many of our 5th and 6th grade learners in chorus participated in an assignment where they had to record themselves singing a full song from what we would have performed in concert on May 7th. Soundtrap, an app/platform that records music of all kinds, and is web-based was used. The outcome is beautiful! Give the screencast performance a listen, you won't be sorry! It is not meant to be perfect...I mean really, nothing is better than singing together in person, but it's not bad for not having a conductor to watch!
Art
CREATIVITY is a SUPERPOWER!
5th & 6th Grade artists make Choice-Based Art!
This week’s Choice Board highlights included Observational Drawing, taking a virtual field trip to Storm King Sculpture Center, learning about and practicing the Studio Habits of Mind called “Observe” and “Express” and giving feedback to other artists in our Gallery.

Kayla Minnich, 6th grade
Kayla Minnich went above and beyond to share a tutorial video of how to make “Fluffy Pancakes” step by step. This was above and beyond the expectation of sharing a photo or two. She did a great job of editing her video and I am sure this will make all of us hungry after watching! Learners are really benefitting from being able to apply the learning directly in these times. #lifeskills #foodandnutrtion #fcsrocks
