The Mustang Messenger
August 18, 2023
Greetings Mustang Families!
We had a great week at Rancho Pico. Thanks to the help of our wonderful parent volunteers, students were issued PE lockers and PE clothes and are ready for their first PE unit. Students have been able to escape the heat at lunch and brunch in the library, wellness room, and multipurpose room. Next week we will pass out Spirit Wear to students who purchased items on our webstore.
Have a great weekend,
Catherine Nicholas, Ed.D.
Clean Campus
I am so proud of how well our students are doing keeping our campus clean and being personally responsible for throwing away their own trash after brunch and lunch!
Here is a picture of our clean campus after student lunch. Keep up the great work Mustangs!!
Water Hydration
It has been very hot this week. Students are encouraged to bring refillable water bottles in order to help them stay hydrated throughout the day. Rancho Pico has four refillable, filtered water stations on campus. The cafeteria and ASB office also sell bottled water (at brunch and lunch only) for $1.00.
Every Tuesday is Early Release
Every Tuesday is Early Release Tuesday for teachers to meet for Professional Development, Collaboration and Department Meetings.
Rancho Pico Library Is Open
The Rancho Pico Library is open! We have new books, new comfortable seating areas, and new games and activities for students to enjoy! Thank you to the PAC and parents for making that possible!
Community Health Fair
Community Health Fair - The Hart District is partnering with Healing California to host a community health fair on Saturday, September 16, and Sunday, September 17, 8:30am-4:00pm, at Golden Valley High School. The event will include FREE vision and dental services, and many community health organizations will be offering additional resources. Any and all family members can take part. Please schedule your appointment.
City Transit
The Santa Clarita Transit has a tripper bus that serves Rancho Pico and has a drop off on Valencia Blvd. Please note that it is a city bus, not a school bus. There is a bus driver and no other adult supervision. Students are held accountable for behaviors on their way to and from school and are expected to behave on the bus. Administration will continue remind students of behavior expectation.
Back to School Night
Thursday, August 31st, is Rancho Pico's Back to School Night from 6:00 - 7:45. It will be important that you have your student's class schedule with room numbers written down (periods 1-6, including advisory) for Back to School Night. Students will bring home schedules. Schedules can also be found on Infinite Campus.
That day is a minimum day and students will be released at 12:10.
Think Ahead Thursdays
Rancho Pico students are opportunity Ready!
Students are encouraged to wear a college shirt or a shirt that represents a future career goal on Thursdays. It is great to see all of the college and industry shirts out on campus.
Fridays are Spirit Days and students are encouraged to wear Rancho Pico Spirit wear.
Dress code
Student were reminded of our district's dress code at our PBIS launch. Here is section II of the dresscode:
a) Students must wear clothing including both a shirt with pants or skirt, or the equivalent (for example dresses, leggings, or shorts) and shoes. Strapless garments are not permitted
b) Shirts and dresses must have fabric to cover the front, the back, and the sides.
c) Clothing must cover undergarments (waistbands and straps excluded). Undergarments, alone, cannot be worn in place of a shirt or top.
d) Fabric must fully cover breasts, genitals and buttocks and must be solid/opaque
B and D are the issues we have been addressing with students this week with low cut tops and abdomens showing. Please go over the district dresscode with your student. We appreciate your support.
