Principal's Update
March 29 represents the start of the final term of this school year. Students in semester classes will begin their new classes today. Students in year-long classes will begin the second half of the curriculum for their course. Be sure to contact your child's teachers if you have any questions about course curriculum or expectations.
We ask you to check FOCUS regularly to monitor your child's grades if you are not doing so already. Many students who struggle academically in their classes do so because they do not submit assignments rather than because they do not perform well on tests. We appreciate your help in keeping your child organized and on track with their assignments so that their grades are an accurate reflection of what they know and are able to do.
Let's have a GREAT week of learning!

Mel High Cybersecurity Students Take Second at Hacking Competition
Mr. Schweich took six students from the Applied Cybersecurity program to Orange Technical College to compete against other local high school cybersecurity programs in the 4th Annual Orange Technical College Capture the Flag Cybersecurity Competition.
One of the two teams took second place, only slightly behind the returning champion team from last year. This performance is even more impressive given this is only the second year of the Applied Cybersecurity program at Mel High. The prizes for the second place team included over $600 in cybersecurity training vouchers from EC-Council, Beats headphones, gaming keyboards, and Lenovo Jedi Challenge AR headsets.
The students demonstrated their mastery of various cybersecurity and ethical hacking concepts and participated in Q&A sessions with representatives form the FBI and national infosec firms.

Teacher Expectations for ELearners
- Students should be properly dressed for virtual instruction just as if they were going to attend class on campus. In short, students should not be in their pajamas or beach wear when attending class.
- Students should plan to log into their class at the time it meets on campus.
- Students should plan to show their face for the entire period to the teacher. This not only allows the teacher to verify the presence of your child for attendance purposes, it also allows the teacher to fully involve your child in the class. Teachers may mark students absent from class if they refuse to show their face on camera. Remember, ELearning only exists because of the pandemic. In a normal year every child would be showing their face live and in person in the classroom.
- Students should plan to participate in class for the entire period. They should not walk away from the camera, attend to household chores, or engage in other activities that would not be allowed in a normal school setting.
Thank you in advance for helping us communicate these expectations to your student.
