In March 2020, in urgent response to an Illinois Stay-at-Home order, SAC transitioned to their eLearning plan for all students in grades PK-8th. SAC provides families with a structured class schedule that similarly reflects each grade level's daily school schedule. The distance learning schedule was adjusted to accommodate different lifestyles at home. Therefore, classes are followed daily between the hours of 9am-2pm, Monday through Friday.

Assignments are aligned with what the class is currently covering and continues to move the curriculum forward. Students learn by utilizing several platforms such as Seesaw, Google Classroom, and Zoom.

As they would in-school, students are taught directly by their teacher. Students watch videos, discuss readings, and continue to express themselves artistically.

Upper grades (4th - 8th) have Zoom meetings five periods a day in addition to extra tutoring hours if needed.

Lower grade students (PK-3rd) meet as a whole-class with their homeroom teacher one period a day and one to two periods with a specials teacher (art, music, PE, Spanish). PK-3rd grade teachers also meet with small groups to differentiate math and reading.

What is eLearning?

Simply put, eLearning is learning utilizing electronic technologies to access educational curriculum outside of a traditional classroom.

Why is eLearning Valuable?

eLearning allows students to continue learning from home without adding additional days to the school year.

How Does eLearning Work?

Congratulations to Science Academy of Chicago for receiving numerous accomplishments at the 2020 IJAS Region 2 Science Fair. This year 7th and 8th grade students participated in the in-person paper session and (for the first time in IJAS history), a virtual poster session! SAC was awarded 25 gold, 8 silver, and 2 bronze medals! 16 out of 25 awarded Top Poster and 7 out of 10 students awarded Top Paper! SAC was also awarded a Regional Paper Superior Achievement and two other special awards. The first virtual award ceremony took place on Friday, May 1st honoring 3rd through 8th grade SAC students. Families joined virtually and were able to congratulate their children on their accomplishments.

Awards presented included: Perfect GPA, Honor Roll, Merit Based Awards for Good Behavior, IJAS, Scholastic Math Challenge and NOETIC Math Contest Awards as well as SALP Awards.

Bedtime stories are read every Thursday evening at 8pm hosted by special guests!

The first year of our "SALP-Science Academy Leadership Program" was filled with excitement, learning, and fun. Mentors, students, and families joined in the virtual award ceremony together to honor our gold, silver and bronze winners, who each received an award certificate and gift cards.

Throughout the school year, our SALP students have gone above and beyond to accomplish their goals by participating in various activities such as community service, physical fitness, and peer tutoring. In the end, 24 students (from 6th through 8th grade) were able to earn a medal: 1 Bronze, 3 Silver, and 20 Gold.

Covid-19 restrictions couldn't stop SAC staff and families to celebrate our kids' birthday. After school closure started, we cruised by the houses of a couple of students (Omar, Naile, Bahar, Mehmet, Nizar, Kaiden) for a surprise birthday parade.

One of our amazing families, Surucu Family, moved to California last week. Just before they left, we wanted to say a warm good-bye to this beloved SAC family. More than 10 staff and friends joined the parade. Thank you for your support to the school community Surucu Family, Good Luck in your life in CA!

SAC teachers have prepared a "Miss You" video for SAC students.

As of March 16th, our students and staff are working and learning in an eLearning model. For families interested in learning more about enrolling to SAC, at this time, the best way to connect with us is to schedule a virtual meeting with the Principal.

During this meeting, we will share more information about our school, share a virtual tour of the building, and answer any questions you may have.

It’s re-enrollment time! Here’s more information by our Principal Ms. Bartucci about the new partnership between SAC and Smart Tuition which will help families make payments easier and more convenient.

SAC Junior Kindergarten students participated in a kindness challenge last week. Their teacher encouraged them to make signs and pictures to hang in their windows so that someone walking by might smile if they saw it.
