Madrona Miles Club
Madrona Miles Club sponsored by MIT is returning in January! This is a free opportunity for students kindergarten through eighth grade to come to school 30 minutes early on Mondays and Thursdays (8:50-9:20) to walk, run, or jog the track. It is a chance to get their bodies and minds ready for a great day at school. Research has shown students who are active are more successful in their academics, so take advantage of Madrona Miles Club beginning on Monday January 8th.
Families are welcome to join their children or they may also drop them off. For every mile completed, students will receive foot tokens on their MMC necklaces as well as other incentives. Thank you to MIT for funding Madrona Miles Club! If you have any questions, please email Mr. Barnes at barnesju@edmonds.wednet.edu.

Girls on the Run–Coaches Needed!
Girls on the Run will be back this Spring at Madrona
Girls on the Run will be back this Spring at Madrona and we are looking for coaches. Practice runs from April 15th - June 10th. Coaching is truly one of the most rewarding experiences and Girls on the Run has a curriculum that is simple to follow. Below is more information from the organization. If you want to coach, Click here to get started (girlsontherunsnoco.org/coach) If you have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out! Email Shelsea Rawson at Rawsons447@edmonds.wednet.edu with any questions.
Girls on the Run believes that every girl can cross the finish line. Through a compelling blend of movement-based games and thought-provoking discussions, girls learn to replace self-doubt with self-love. So much more than running, the evidence-based curriculum unlocks the power and potential in every girl. It all begins with the coaches.
The impact of a Girls on the Run volunteer coach is as boundless as it is beautiful. Girls on the Run inspires life-changing transformations in girls when they need it most, and this is in large part thanks to our amazing coaches.
Girls on the Run coaches are:
Trained to lead small teams through engaging lessons that build confidence, inspire healthy habits and foster meaningful connections
Not required to be runners or athletes
Fully prepared and supported by GOTR
Available for practice 2/week
Compassionate and empowering leaders who want to support the next generation of change-makers.
Coaches bring our evidence-based curriculum to life and are at the heart of what makes Girls on the Run one of a kind. At every practice, their encouragement inspires girls to activate and reach their limitless potential. Throughout the season, coaches facilitate two 90-minute practices a week over the course of 8 weeks. The season begins April 15th, includes a county-wide 5K on Sunday, June 9th and ends with a final celebration for your team the week of June 10th. Coaches are provided with all of the resources, training and tools they need to offer a memorable and successful program to girls during a critical time in their lives.
Coaches help girls:
Develop essential skills to lead an emotionally and physically healthy life
Learn the value of setting goals by preparing for a celebratory 5K
Make a difference locally implementing a Community Impact Project
School Levy
Please consider encouraging everyone to vote in February for the School Levy and Bond. Madrona benefitted from previous bonds with our gorgeous campus and buildings. There are still several schools in the Edmonds district that are operating in buildings that either need updating or complete rebuilds. Let’s help get those students into the space they deserve! Please reach out to Fabian at fabilis@comcast.net. There are lots of easy ways to help support:
Post informational flyers in office areas.
Post a sign in your yard
Phone calling
Sign Waving
and in general, knowing the talking points and being able and willing to speak about the election

MIT Web Technology Updates
In development... Be an editor of your own page on MadronaBearFacts.Com
Become an editor for your MIT project, activity or committee page on our site. MIT Technology is putting together the ability to safely allow individuals to be editors of a page on the site. You will be able to login and edit the content on your page whenever you want to keep it updated. You will be able to upload images and media to support your activities. Contact Molly via MITParentChair@gmail.com if your interested in this ability. We are compiling a list of folks with the time and desire to volunteer to adopt a page.
Open Call for MIT technology volunteers. We need to find additional web site support volunteers to help post updates to the web site and produce the MIT news letter emails. A few hours each week are needed. Zoom Training will be provided by Michael Scott McGinn in how to use WordPress, Smore and A.I. tools to create images and story editing ideas.
