LycoCTC Rotary Student Of The Month for November Abby Laubach
The Lycoming Career and Technology Center is pleased to announce Abby Laubach as
Rotary/LycoCTC Student of the Month for November, 2023. Abby, daughter of Jessica and Kris
Laubach of Muncy, PA, has received this honor based upon her outstanding work ethic,
attendance, behavior, community service, and the recommendation of her LycoCTC Criminal
Justice class instructor.
A Muncy High School senior, Abby is a member of the Lycoming Career and Technology Center
Chapter of Skills USA, and she has assisted in LycoCTC recruitment activities at her home
school.
Following graduation in June of 2024, Abby will attend the Pennsylvania College of Technology
with a major in Emergency Management, which will lead to working as a corrections officer or
probation officer.
LycoCTC Rotary Student Of The Month for December- Damian Brown
The Lycoming Career and Technology Center is pleased to announce Damian Brown as Rotary/LycoCTC Student of the Month for December 2023. Damian, son of David and Hestia Brown of Turbotville, PA, has received this honor based upon his outstanding work ethic, attendance, behavior, community service, and the recommendation of his LycoCTC Automotive Technology class instructor.
A Warrior Run High School senior, Damian participates in the Warrior Run High School Band, Basketball, and Baseball Teams. His activities outside of school include membership in the Anthony Township 4-H Club and Warrior Run Area Fire Department. Damian has also completed the 4-H Diamond Award Project.
Following graduation in June of 2024, Damian will attend the University of Northwestern Ohio with a dual major in Heavy Duty Diesel and Agricultural Diesel programs.
Cooperative Education
We are excited to continue providing more students with work-based learning experiences and appreciate all of our local business partners. There are currently 17 students participating in our cooperative education program. This month LycoCTC would like to recognize 2 students participating in Co-op! Austin Bryson, a Warrior Run senior in our Automotive 2/3 class is completing his cooperative education placement at Watsontown Trucking. And Brooquelyn Dunkle, a Warrior Run senior in our Health Careers program is completing her cooperative education placement at Geisinger ENT-Danville.
Automotive Technology Level 1
The second picture is of a student performing a gas butt weld on coupons.
Students are learning SMAW stick welding in Auto 1
The Automotive 1 students had to complete a welding project. They had 1"flatstock fused together using the oxygen-acetylene gas welding process. They were then heated to 1500-1800*F and bent to the students' desired shape. Students then had the option to finish the surfaces with glass beads, polishing techniques or heat hardening and quenching. Pictured below are the completed projects from the students. The second picture is the top 3 that did the best job! And the last picture is of Maggie Keeth from Montoursville, she was the winner!
Automotive Technology Level 2/3
Students in the Automotive 2/3 program are practicing their automotive competencies in tire dismounting and mounting. They are also working on engine mechanical measurements.
Students made slideshow demonstrations for electrical sensors.
Students machining brake rotors with the on car brake lathe.
Students are working on grinding valves and rebuilding engine cylinder heads.
Students learning precision measurements on brake components.
Computer Systems Technology
Students are using Autodesk TinkerCAD to diagram RAM modules, and have been integrating 3D modeling into the curriculum more this year.
Students are testing out spare parts.
Construction Technology
Students in Construction are starting to work on their framing project.
Cody Ross from T-Ross Construction came to visit and talk about job opportunities available in the industry.
Criminal Justice
Students are studying Interview and Interrogations in Criminal Justice. They have also been practicing weapon manipulation and accuracy drills.
Students are performing a one leg stand DUI test.
Students are performing a walk and turn DUI standard field sobriety test.
Students in Criminal Justice are learning and practicing calling in a vehicle stop.
Culinary Arts
Pre-K classes from Renn and Ashkar Elementary came to visit the Culinary class. The students in Culinary prepared cookies and frosting for the children and helped them decorate their cookies.
Early Childhood
The afternoon preschool class brought their lunches for a Friendsgiving Celebration with their friends. They are thankful for each one of the children that they get to teach every week!
The Early Childhood class and the LycoTykes preschool students visited the Culinary class and made Christmas cookies!
Health Careers- Mrs. Wallace
Level 1 students are learning how to measure and record a patient's height and weight.
Level 1 students are teaching their classmates about complementary, holistic, and alternative therapies that are commonly being integrated into current healthcare practices.
Level 1 students are learning to take a patient's vital signs.
Level 2 students are learning to provide bedside care to a patient with weakness/paralysis on half of the body.
Level 2 students are learning to transfer and ambulate patients safely using different assistive and mobility devices.
Level 2 students are learning about the Cardiovascular System. They made "blood" models to simulate plasma, erythrocytes, leukocytes, and thrombocytes in the blood and discussed their function in the body.
Health Careers- Mrs. Shaffer
Level 1 students are learning to take temperatures at various body sites.
Level 1 students are also learning to measure pulse and respirations.
Level 3 students are learning to measure blood sugar level with a glucometer.
Level 3 students are learning to perform a 12 lead ECG.
Adopt A Senior Citizen
The Health Careers program had a "Adopt A Senior Citizen" donation project! The teachers and students did so well that they had enough donations to adopt three senior citizens! Their program donated personal supplies, grocery gift cards, personal hygiene products, and comfort items to 2 male and 1 female senior citizens in need in our community. They also received ornaments that were made on the CNC machine!
Door Decorating Contest
The teachers and students decorated their doors for the annual door decorating contest!
And the winner is.............Health Careers Mrs. Wallace!
LycoCTC Alumni Spotlight
Zachary Butler- East Lycoming 2019-Computer Systems Technology
Zack graduated LycoCTC in 2019. During his time at Lyco Zach was able to earn CompTIA A+ and Net+. He attended Alfred State College of Technology and graduated in May of 2022 with a Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology: Network Administration. Zack currently lives in Harrodsburg, Kentucky and works for Corning Incorporated as a Senior Systems Analyst.
