Klein Cain HS Campus Newsletter

I am so excited to announce the addition of Mr. Joel Wren to our Klein Cain administrative staff! Mr. Wren will be serving as our Lead Associate Principal and he has come on board this week to begin this awesome adventure! We will be working together in the coming months to hire department chairs, counselors, administrators and the rest of our Hurricane Leadership Team.

Having had the opportunity to work alongside Mr. Wren at Klein High School, I can tell you that he is the real deal! He is a dedicated educator who ALWAYS puts the needs of his students first. He is an enthusiastic leader who likes to have fun, be role model for the students and ensure everyone on campus reaches their fullest potential. He is the perfect person to help create a learning environment that is comfortable, challenging, creative and enjoyable for our Hurricane family. Welcome to the eye of the storm, Mr. Wren! We are glad you are here!

There are a lot of exciting things happening for Klein Cain these days! District leaders are working collaboratively with us to ensure that we have the best resources in our classrooms and library; we have started to narrow down our furniture selections for the campus; we have made campus visits to other schools in the area to discuss classroom and furniture design, curriculum and get teacher/student feedback on certain choices made by the campuses; we have started the hiring process to grow our faculty and staff and begin to hire the right people who can help us fulfill our vision.

Construction is moving along nicely as well. As always, I have included some pictures of various areas around campus (in an area below) so you can see how things are starting to come alive! All of the brickwork on the outside of the building should be done within the next few weeks, so we will be able to get a great view of just how beautiful the exterior of our building is! I cannot continue to show pictures of the campus and talk about how beautiful it is without giving a huge shout out to the companies and people who are working hard each and every day to make sure we have a beautifully built campus. Thanks to S&P, PBK and all of their subcontractors for all of their hard work! And of course, a huge message of gratitude to all of the KISD employees who are a blessing to work with on this project as well!

I hope that you enjoy this week's edition of the newsletter! As the weather starts to turn cooler(at least hopefully soon) and Fall starts to set in, I also hope that you are finding time to relax and enjoy the weather and time with your families. This is the start of a pretty terrific time of year - make the most of each and every day!

Once again, I need to say a HUGE THANK YOU to our KISD Project Manager, Molly Rall, for her photography skills! She is great about making sure we have up-to-date pictures on a regular basis. I hope that everyone who is seeing these pictures is getting as excited as I am to know that we get to be in that building next year!!!! What an amazing opportunity!

At Klein Cain High School, we are all about the 21st Century Learner! We are hopeful that we will be able to create an environment that cultivates and sustains growth and development for our students and staff. As promised in the 2nd issue of the newsletter, I will start highlighting the various elements of a 21st Century Learner and explain to you just how we plan to design, furnish and equip our campus so our students can be critical thinkers who are creative & collaborative.

While designing the architectural infrastructure of Klein Cain HS, there was a lot of thought that went into exactly what we wanted to accomplish on this campus. The shape of the classrooms, the collaborative spaces in each wing, the design of the library, the placement of elective classrooms near core content classrooms...it was all taken into account. Now that the foundation is there in the building, it is up to the Hurricane leadership team to furnish the campus with furniture and resources that allow for free-thinking, innovation, risk-taking, creativity, collaboration and imagination to take center stage - not only with our students, but our teachers as well.

L-shaped classrooms open up a world of opportunities for multiple types of learning mediums to be incorporated in class. It allows for flexibility with grouping and room to be innovative, creative and engaged.

Flexible seating for our students makes the classroom less intimidating and more stimulating. It creates a comfortable learning environment where the students can decide where/how they want to sit based on how they learn best. The classrooms at Klein Cain will be outfitted with several different types of furniture - not just your basic desk and chair. Movement, collaboration and student choice is the name of the game!

Collaborative areas are scattered throughout the school for the students to take advantage of. These specially designed areas are strategically placed so that learning can take place beyond the 4 walls of the classroom. Some classrooms will have the ability "spill out" into these areas to increase the amount of space in which the students can move around and innovate. These areas will allow for independent work, small group work, large group learning and collaboration to take lace. The best part about these spaces, in my opinion, is that they are areas where all of our students can come together to enrich and enhance their learning experience.
