Updates for the Week of May 8 - 12, 2023

Dear Shadow Hills Families,

As we approach the end of the school year, I wanted to share some important updates and upcoming events.

Firstly, I am pleased to announce that we will be celebrating Staff Appreciation Week this week. This is an opportunity to recognize and thank our hardworking and dedicated staff members for their tireless efforts in supporting our students. Please take a moment to show your appreciation for their hard work and dedication.

In addition to Staff Appreciation Week, I would like to draw your attention to the attached flyer below for the upcoming APEX Fun Run event. This exciting fundraising event will be held in the coming weeks to support our school and its programs. Please take a moment to review the details and consider supporting our school by participating in this fun and engaging event.

Lastly, the PTA currently accepts board member nominations. This is a significant opportunity to get involved in your child's education and positively impact our school community. If you are interested in serving on the PTA board or know someone who would be a great candidate, please review the attached nomination form.

Character Education - Perseverance

Here at school, we have been very busy learning about perseverance- what it means, and how we can practice it! Learning happens best when it is done both at school and at home. Below are many ways that you can help you child continue to learn about the theme of perseverance through reading about it, talking about it, and practicing it! We have really enjoyed exploring this topic at school, and I hope your family will enjoy it just as much!

Reading About It

Here are some books to help you learn more perseverance:

Practice It!

Help your child learn to persevere by engaging in difficult tasks with him/her. Buy a large puzzle, learn and perfect a new skill, etc. Find something to do together and commit to pushing each other through the challenge.

Talk About It!

Here are some discussion points to help you talk about perseverance with your child:

What do you think perseverance means and why is it important?
Tell me about someone when it was hard to get through a challenge. How did you feel after?
What are some things that are hard for you to push through, and how can I help you?
What are 3 goals you have? What may be some challenges to meeting these goals? What will happen if you don't give up?

Staff Appreciation Week - May 8 - 12, 2023

Staff Appreciation Week is a special time dedicated to showing our gratitude and appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the teachers and staff who make our schools run smoothly. This week is an opportunity to recognize and honor the efforts of the people who devote their time and energy to educate and care for our students. It's a time to show appreciation for the hours of preparation, teaching, grading, counseling, and extra-curricular activities they undertake daily. Acknowledging their contributions can build strong relationships between teachers and students and create a positive school culture that values and celebrates everyone's efforts. Staff Appreciation Week is a beautiful way to show appreciation for the essential role that teachers and staff play in our lives and communities.

SHES APEX Fun Run

The APEX Fun Run provides all students with the best possible education and school experience, regardless of their financial situation. In addition, all students are included in the leadership and fitness program to encourage growth and learning for all. The Apex Leadership Co. provides a 2-week interactive program focused on leadership, character-building, and fitness, all while helping schools raise much-needed funds. The 2022-2023 program's theme is X-Factor, which aims to develop student self-control, decision-making, and interpersonal skills vital for success in school and life. The program's lessons are quick, engaging, and tied into the school's vision and mission to encourage a positive environment and inspire students.

PTA Board Nominations

PTAs are vital to schools as they provide a valuable bridge between the school administration and families. Water bottles - It is extremely important that your child brings a water bottle to school DAILY. We do have multiple water bottling filling stations on-site to refill their bottles.
