WHAT DID YOU DO OVER SUMMER BREAK?
THIS WEEK IN GRADES K-6
KINDERGARTEN
We kicked off the year fantastically! The kids are having so much fun learning about school and each other. We’ve played games, read stories, learned rules and so much more.
Please remember to always put extra clothes in their backpacks in case of accidents. Students must be bringing home their folders and agenda’s every night. We also need the OCPS conduct form and OSES conduct form signed and returned as soon as possible.
FIRST
We had a great first week in 1st grade! We reviewed new rules and procedures, made new friends, and built our classroom communities through team building activities.
Our team is asking for book donations and recess items (new or used). If you have any books your children no longer read, please donate them to one of our 1st-grade teachers. We appreciate all donations to help our students succeed.
The 1st grade team thanks you in advance. Pictured from left to right Ms. Lozano, Ms. DiNuzzo, Ms. Bayno, Ms. Sanico, Mrs. Quarterman, and Ms. Keene
SECOND
Welcome to the first week in Second Grade!
We’ve spent all summer as a team gathering new, exciting activities for students to participate in to help them learn. The second grade team this year consists of Mrs. Yeaman, Ms. Wiley, Mrs. Harber, Ms. Sonn, Ms. Coy, and Ms. Nickerson.
In the classrooms this week, we are focusing on getting students back into the school routines. We are practicing our classroom procedures so that we may have a very productive school year.
Please remember, if you have not already, students must have their beginning of the year paperwork filled out and returned as soon as possible. These documents include, The OSES Code of Conduct (found on the first page of each student agenda), the OCPS Code of Conduct, Student Residency Form, Free and Reduced Lunch Form, Chromebook Guidelines, and Club Contracts (if applicable).
If you have not signed and returned these forms, please do so as soon as possible, your student may not be able to participate in certain activities without these documents!
We can’t wait to have an awesome year with you and your students. We look forward to helping them grow!
THIRD
In third grade, classes are working on procedures and building classroom communities. Students have participated in STEAM activities to help build teamwork and collaboration. Several classes participated in a “Book Tasting”, exploring different genres to prepare for reading instruction. Mrs. Astacio, Mr. Frazer, Ms. Gerstung, Mr. Martin, Mrs. Myers, and Ms. Wullschleger are so excited to welcome your students to third grade!
FOURTH
Welcome to fourth grade! This week, we’ve focused on procedures and getting to know one another. Since the students are new to the building, the 4th grade team wants to make sure they know for sure where everything is and how we behave when moving around. Students have also had a chance to participate in growth mindset activities to set up for a good year of learning. Also, students got to stretch their engineering muscles when making desk name tags that fit specific requirements.
FIFTH
On behalf of the fifth-grade teachers, we wanted to welcome our students to a new school year. We are excited to start the year with Miss Kenney, Miss Galan, Mrs. Sauceldo, Ms. Holmes, Miss Kim, and Mrs. LeBron.
This week, we will focus on learning classroom routines, procedures, and expectations. In Mrs. LeBron’s class, we are also getting to know each other and synergizing via STEM activities and “Get to Know Me” portraits!
If you haven’t already, please send in your child’s supplies and signed paperwork from the checklist. Our classroom will appreciate disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer. In addition, please be on the lookout for an email regarding a change in the grading policy.
We look forward to having a fantastic school year! Please enjoy the pictures below!
SIXTH
We are excited to announce that Orlando Science Middle school will be offering athletic programs to 6th -8th graders this year.

Sport Packet must be completed before the tryouts. (EKG/ECG is not required for Middle school) Without a completed sports packet, your student is not allowed to participate in tryouts.
Please pick your student up on time at 5:30 pm.
OSES will not provide transportation to and from the games, so please arrange your transportation.
This week, sixth graders worked on learning the routines and procedures of their classroom teachers, as well as practiced transitioning to different classrooms at the end of each period. It was great to meet with students and we look forward to a great year.
CLUBS AND TUTORING
CLUBS
Hello families!
Please remember that you should not arrive on campus before clubs dismiss. Even coming 5 minutes early causes backups in our dismissal process.
- Building 1 (grades K-3) - clubs dismiss at 3:40 during the week and 2:40 on Wednesday
- Building 2 (grades 4-6)- clubs dismiss at 3:30 during the week and 2:30 on Wednesday
ABSENCES: Remember that 3 or more consecutive absences will result in a removal from the club. If you are missing club because of tutoring or sickness, email the club teacher so it can be excused.
At this time all clubs are full. To withdraw from a club or to be put on the waitlist, please fill out the form below. You will be contacted regarding any changes to your child's club schedule.
For club questions, you can contact Ms. Taylor at Taylor.Watson@orlandoscience.org
