A Message from the Principal
Dear SAC Community,
It's been a sensational start to the 2020-2021 school year. It's so exciting to have our students back in the classroom and virtually at home! Our teachers have worked diligently, and continue to work, to make this new normal the best educational experience possible. The SAC staff have been on quite the journey these last several months. I am so proud of each one of them for ‘rafting through these unchartered waters.’ Our staff had all hands on deck, and everyone helped to ensure that we could safely bring our students back to the classrooms and technologically be successful at home.
From all the various disinfecting techniques and a well cleaned building, our custodial and maintenance crew continue to work tirelessly to make it possible for our students to remain in a safe learning environment.
Our students have done a phenomenal job with wearing their masks. Children adapt to change much faster and more effectively than adults. Our virtual students have been doing an excellent job attending their classes on time and participating as if they were in the building! Our students are so resilient, and we are so proud of them!
Last month we enjoyed an exciting outdoor event, "Around the World in 120 Minutes": a SAC exclusive Drive-In movie production! Student, families, and teachers came together and enjoyed a beautiful evening. We have some exciting socially distant programs in October such as the Starved Rock Family Event on Oct 10th, and our annual Spooktacular on Oct 23rd from 6pm-8pm in SAC's parking lot.
We look forward to having a great 2020-2021 school year and as always, we thank you for your community support.
Stay well,
Ms. Bartucci
Busy Month of Learning in PK3!
DRIVE-IN MOVIE NIGHT
Science Academy Leadership Program (SALP) Activities
KICKOFF PICNIC on Sep.19th
We kicked off our SALP program by hosting an amazing picnic at Friendship park on Sept. 19th. 40 students came out to hang out with their friends and school staff on a beautiful fall day. After catching up with their friends, students participated in games, such as volleyball and soccer, where they got to compete and have fun! Throughout the day, kids were treated to pizza, snacks and drinks while they took a break from the various games and activities we planned for them.
OUTDOOR ACTIVITY AT FRIENDSHIP PARK on Sep.26th
SAC hosted a 2nd outdoor activity for SALP, which had the 6th and 7th graders come together to have fun! We had a total of 18 students come out to Friendship park along with their teachers and mentors. During this event, our students participated in 5 different fun and competitive games like giant Jenga, which forced the students think of the best winning strategy, and 4-way tug of war, which tested the students’ physical strength! In fact, winners of each game, received a prize for their effort. Throughout the event, students were treated to food and drinks to help them refuel for all the games held that day.
ALUMNI REUNION-Oct.3rd,2020
On Oct. 3rd, 2020, we held our traditional Alumni Fall Reunion in Friendship Park, where up to 45 students from the last 4 years came to catch up with old friends and teachers. There were many jokes, laughs, and conversations about the past, present, and future. Throughout the event, alumni were treated to delicious food, such as doner (gyro), while relaxing and enjoying their day. Mini-games and tournaments, like volleyball and 4-way tug of war, were also played throughout the event, which had alumni competing against each other and teachers. To close, we had all alumni and teachers come together for a giant picture to commemorate the event!

Virtual Home Visits
This year we are happy to continue home visits virtually. To make a safe and fun experience for everyone at SAC, our goal is to create closer cooperation, trust and lasting relationships between students, parents and teachers in a fun and creative way. Through home visits our teachers get a chance to learn more about our students beyond the classroom to better meet their needs and guide each of them in the right direction. Each virtual home visit will last from 30min to an hour.
To schedule your virtual home visit, please complete the home visit form provided below.
