A Peek At the Week: August 14, 2017
Summer Check In #2
We are on "T-Minus" calendar time! Wow, I don't know about you, but these few months have completely flown by! We, at school, have been sorting out the last of the class placements, Forms & Fees organization, cleaning, and trying to sleep while we can!
Personally, I have been eating my way through the State Fair, swimming with my boys, and reading some fun (and professional) books. We are also preparing for my grandfather-in-law's 80th birthday party, which will be in our backyard (trying not to panic just quite yet ;).
We are also, as a district, working on finalizing our social media presence. We will have a Lake Bluff Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram account this year! I look forward to sharing more about this in the upcoming weeks.
I hope you are soaking in every last minute you can. I am so excited to have you back soon!
Yours in "countdown",
Angela
Lake Bluff Happenings
Jennifer Conigliaro: for all of her work with the district ELL staff (and Penny, of course) to put on an amazing SLICE! It was moving to hear from various immigrants and refugees that live in the Milwaukee area. Their experiences touched so many hearts.
All that attended the SLICE or EL 101! We absolutely appreciate you giving up precious summer hours to further your own learning!
Pam Scheferman: Pam has been working her tail off getting everything organized for Forms & Fees! She put in extra hours and her new system this year made things go SO smoothly! We cannot thank her enough!
Amanda Hull & Jim Schmidt: For being the smiliest faces for parents to see first when they entered Form & Fees! Thanks for the long hours!
Ashley Randazzo: Ashley gave up two beautiful days of summer to monitor the Lake Bluff table at Forms and Fees! Thank you SO much for this amazing gift of time!
Bennie & the amazing custodial team: The school looks AMAZING! We cannot thank you enough for your hard work this summer!
SO many of you: Many of you have already been in, working on classrooms, getting things set up. And those of you that haven't, I know you are brainstorming and planning at home. We appreciate all of the time and effort you put in!
A Warm Lake Bluff Welcome to:
Gina Glembin: Gina has recently accepted the part time art position in our district. She will be spending 3 mornings at Lake Bluff, and 1 morning at Atwater. I will post a "Twitter Bio" soon. Please help her feel welcome to our little family!
EL Updates
August 15: Expedition Planning @ Lake Bluff 9:00-3:00 (A continuation from our June work, but Penny/Nate can catch those up that might have missed)
August 21-22: Expedition Planning @ Atwater 9:00-3:00 (If you can only make one of these two days, Penny recommends the 21st).
Looking forward to seeing you there!

Food for Thought...
This one struck me as I reflect upon closing achievement gaps and supporting the "whole child." How do you teach/foster "grit" in your classroom? What about "growth mindset"?
