Curriculum Update
We are continuing on our story journey. The children have thoroughly enjoyed engaging in collaborative story planning during our inquiry play sessions. We have had children become expert story tellers and sharing stories through role play, puppet shows, story maker ideas and arts. We are seeing an increased understanding of the structure of a story and the importance of being aware of who your audience is.
The children have been exploring morals within a story and identifying these in traditional and well known stories such as the 3 Little Pigs, Billy Goat Gruff etc...
This has led to many great discussions about how we all connect with stories in a variety of different ways.
In Mathematics, we have been consolidating our learning of place value, skip counting and number bonds through many interactive games. The children have also been practicing their addition skills and finding number bonds to 10, extending to 20 and finding differences between two numbers. They have also demonstrated lots of creativity when making characters using different shapes and adding googley eyes to make their characters come to life!
Phonics
The children will be participating in 2x phonics sessions a week in their differentiated groups after half term. In their groups, they learn three sets of sounds that correspond with word cards and books. Below are the different sets of sounds your children will learn.

Games reminder
Our Games programme will begin after the half term holiday starting the week beginning Monday 24th October. Your child should wear PE kit on their PE and Games day unless it is a special school event.
Year 2 Games will be on FRIDAYS.
Extracurricular Sporting Activities
As I'm sure you're glad to hear, several sporting tournaments and matches between schools in Hong Kong are finally resuming. After more than three years without school competition, we are extremely pleased to see this.
In light of this, it is crucial that the PE Department at Kennedy School has a deeper grasp of what our kids are up to in terms of their extracurricular sporting activities. This information is crucial and will allow us to provide our students with opportunities to represent Kennedy School in their preferred/strongest sport.
To assist us in making more informed decisions on the selection of sports teams, especially so early in the school year, we would appreciate it if you could offer a brief description of any current sporting activities your child participates in outside of Kennedy School.
If you have more than one child at Kennedy School please fill in the form separately for each of your children.
