PICTURE RETAKES

Picture Retake Day is scheduled for Tuesday, October 10th for any students that missed the original picture days in August, or would like to have their pictures retaken. If you purchased a picture package and want to have a retake, please bring your original package with you to turn in to the photographer. Order forms for anyone that needs to place an order are available in the East and West Offices.

COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS INFORMATIONAL MEETING

Students and parents interested in learning more about College Credit Plus for the 24-25 school year are encouraged to attend a meeting on Thursday, November 9th at 6 pm in Room 160 of the High School. An informational slide show will be presented first, followed by a time for students and parents to meet directly with CCP representatives from local colleges. This will replace the meeting that has been held in January in previous years.

FAFSA INFORMATIONAL MEETING

Senior students and their parents are invited to attend a financial aid session scheduled for Tuesday, November 14th at 6 pm in Room 160 of the High School. A local financial aid expert will present information to help parents and students understand the financial aid process, including the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) guidelines.

Thursday, November 10th: 4:00pm-7:15pm

Tuesday, November 14th: 4:00pm-7:15pm

Starting Thursday, October 26th, parents will be able to schedule appointments online by going to limashawnee.com and clicking on the High School Parent-Teacher Conference link. From there, click on the teacher or teachers you wish to meet with and follow the directions to set up conferences. Appointments cannot be scheduled online the day of the conference. If you are unable to access the internet to set up conferences, or need to schedule a last-minute appointment, please call Mrs. Downard in the Guidance Office at 419-998-8004.

Conferences with your students’ guidance counselor can be scheduled by going to the Guidance Web Page on limashawnee.com, choosing High School from the Schools drop down tab, choosing High School Guidance/Guidance Website from the Menu, and then choosing the box to “Book an appointment” with the appropriate counselor.

22-23 Yearbooks

The 2022-23 Yearbooks are in! If you ordered last year's yearbook please stop by Mr. Krawetzke's room before school, during study hall, or after school starting today to pick up your copy. Graduated seniors please stop by the West Office during school hours to pick up your book. If you forgot to order your yearbook please contact Mr. Krawetzke for ordering details.

Wellness Day

We are having Shawnee High School's third annual Wellness Day! During an extended Connections period, on October 31st, students will be with a group participating in an activity that promotes personal wellness. All activities will be led by our high school staff. Activites are ranging from yoga & meditation, relaxation stations, knitting, a visit with furry friends from the Humane Society, nature walks, puzzles, and more!

Students, if you have not joined your Google Classroom for your grade level, please do so ASAP. The guidance department will be posting information and updates in your grade level classrooms throughout the school year.

Ohio Means Jobs Resources

As a resource for our students and staff, Ohio Means Jobs Allen County has placed a job coach at Shawnee High School for the academic year. Kyler Washam will be available to meet with students each Tuesday morning from 8:00 -11:30 AM in the high school guidance office. Kyler will periodically work with groups of students in their Ohio Means Jobs Backpacks, and will also be available for any student asking for individual help with resumes, cover letters, job seeking, job shadowing, internships, co-ops, etc. Please contact the guidance office if you have questions or concerns at (419) 998-8004.

GROB Apprenticeship Class

Please see the message below from GROB if you are interested in their apprenticeship program after graduation:

We are thrilled to announce that we are now accepting applications for the 2024 GROB apprenticeship class! Applications can be submitted on our website (see link below). The deadline to apply is March 31st, however, we review applications on a rolling basis. The sooner students apply, the sooner they can go through the application process.

GROB has a 33-year history of training apprentices to excel in various mechanical and electrical career pathways in manufacturing. Our program not only offers hands-on experience, but also a company-paid college education through our partnership with Rhodes State College. To date, we have trained over 500 apprentices through our program in Bluffton.

New for this year: Students can expect to receive more individualized training and mentorship with the addition of two more training instructors to our staff. Both instructors went through the apprenticeship and are excited to start teaching the next generation of our workforce. We also are starting an Apprenticeship Newsletter for anyone interested in staying in the loop about program updates and deadlines. The sign-up form for this newsletter can be found here.

Shawnee High School Alumni Scholarship

A new scholarship was created to benefit our seniors, starting with the Class of 2022: The Lima Shawnee Alumni-Legacy Scholarship Fund. If you are interested in donating to the fund, please click here and follow them on Facebook at Lima Shawnee Scholarship Fund for updates and more information. We appreciate all efforts to pay it forward to our seniors. Thank you for leaving your legacy on our community.

Graduation Announcements, Caps, and Gowns

On Tuesday, October 10, the representative from Herff Jones will meet with seniors to distribute information about ordering caps, gowns, and graduation announcements. Orders for caps, gowns and announcements will be taken on Friday, October 20 during our lunch periods.

Our seniors at Apollo Career Center will meet with the Herff Jones representative on Tuesday, October 10 at Apollo at 8:00 AM. Orders will be taken for Apollo seniors on Friday, October 20 at 8:00 AM at Apollo.

In order to participate in the Commencement Ceremony, seniors must meet all graduation requirements and wear the cap and gown representative of Shawnee High School. Please check with your senior to make sure the appropriate items have been ordered.

College/Career/Military Visit Request Form

Shawnee High School permits students two days each year for college visitations, career experiences or military recruitment procedures. For an approved school absence in relation to college/military/career visits, students should complete this form at least two days prior to the date of the requested visitation. Students are expected to confer with teachers prior to the visitation in order to arrange for make up work. Students are not permitted to take college visitations after the first week in May.

Students must take the following steps in order to make a college/career/military visitation on school days:

1. Arrange the visit with the college
2. Complete this form.
3. Wait for confirmation/approval from guidance (through school email).
4. Confer with each teacher prior to the visit in order to arrange for make up work.
5.Bring a paper or email confirmation of the visit from the college to school counselor.

College/Military Conferences at Shawnee

Please click here to view the schedule of upcoming college representatives visiting SHS this fall. This will continue to change so please refer back to it weekly to stay up to date. Students are officially permitted to attend 5 of these sessions throughout the fall. Students will us the link at the bottom of the form to sign up individually for each rep they want to speak with and pay close attention to the date and time. Students should check with their teacher (unless it's during Connections) ahead of time. We'll be taking attendance at the rep meetings. If students don't sign up ahead of time we will ask that students return to class, and if students do sign up and decide that you don't want to attend, students should email their counselor so we know who to expect. Please stop in guidance if you have questions.

Advice for Seniors

Keep your grades up. Strong grades/GPA during the first semester is critical.
Be mindful of deadlines.
Plan ahead to get the best recommendation letter.
If you need a recommendation from a teacher for college, scholarship, or a job, your first step is to ask the teacher if he/she is able to write you a recommendation letter.
Make sure to tell the teacher the deadline and give the teacher AT LEAST two weeks to write the letter.
You also need to let the teacher know how to submit the letter (common app, sent to guidance to be mailed with transcript, etc.).
Make as many memories as you can! This year will fly by.
